HoA resumes today on anniversary of 2019 general elections

- more than 45 questions to be asked of sitting VIP Gov’t by Opposition

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Fifth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands will resume at 10:00 am today, Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

The Sitting, which was adjourned on Thursday, February 20, 2020, will continue with Item No 4: Statements by Ministers.

More than 45 questions, with several parts and follow-ups, will also be asked of the Opposition, including on the expenditure, BVI Airways, consultancies, Housing Recovery Assistance Programme, BVI Fishing Complex, road works, contracts signed by previous government days before general elections, and the UK Loan Guarantee among others.

Documents to be laid on the table will be Statutory Instrument 2020 No. 4 – Merchant Shipping (International Safety Management Code) Regulations, 2020 and the Virgin Islands National Medicines Policy.

Bills

Several bills will also receive their Second and Third readings, including the Consumer Protection Act, 2019; Disaster Management Act, 2019; Virgin Islands Trade Commission Act, 2019; Police Act, 2019; Charging Orders Act, 2019; Medical (Amendment) Act, 2019 and Trade In Endangered Species (Cites) Act, 2019.

Today’s Sitting is also the one year anniversary of the February 25, 2019 general elections in which the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) swept to power.

The proceedings of the House of Assembly will be will be carried live on CBN Radio 90.9 FM, the Caribbean superstation or follow live online on www.cbnvirginislands.com as well as on Youtube on House of Assembly BVI.
