Haiti, Turkey Hold Talks in Port-au-Prince

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu continued his trip to Hispaniola on Tuesday with a visit to Port-au-Prince.

Davutoglu held talks with Haitian officials including Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, new Foreign Minister Duly Brutus and Trade Minister Wilson Laleau.

The meeting focused on “strengthening cooperative relations” between the two countries, according to the Haitian government.

The two sides reportedly agreed to deepen cooperation in areas like agriculture, tourism, energy, urban infrastructure and education, according to Lamothe’s office.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency is also planning to send a mission to Haiti to discuss the “legal framework” to help facilitate the arrival of Turkish investors in the country.

Davutoglu invited Lamothe and Martelly to reciprocate with a visit to Turkey.

Next month, Brutus will be participating in a high-level CARICOM conference in Istanbul.
