Guilty! Masa on Gun, Smith for beating stripper over 'short' service time
Magistrate Ayanna O. Baptiste-DaBreo gave the verdict on Friday May 19, 2017, while claiming that the evidence against the young Virgin Islander was overwhelming.
The court was convinced that the fingerprints found on various parts of the weapon including the gun trigger, handgrip, trigger guard, and the magazine were confirmed to be that of Mr. Pemberton.
Magistrate DaBreo did not buy Masa's version that he discovered the weapon near his Purcell Estate, Tortola residence, and examined it, that is why his fingerprints were on the gun.
Mr. Pemberton who already spent over a year at Her Majesty's Prison in Balsam Ghut is to be sentenced on June 16, 2017.
Not enough time for my $100.00 bill
It was on May 16, 2016 that Garry Smith 43, visited a strip club on Tortola and paid a stripper $100 for a ‘private dance’ which they did in the Club's s back room for such activity.
According to information in open court after about 20 minutes another employee of the Club knocked on the door to indicate that the time had expired, because another client wanted to use the room.
Mr. Smith was not pleased with the short time so he requested additional time or that his money be returned to him.
The stripper or sex worker said no and told her client Smith he would have to pay additional money for more time.
According to the Crown's case, the two had a quarrel, that resulted in a fight. Mr Smith then grabbed the stripper's purse and took out $300 then left the club.
The stripper, who has since left the Virgin Islands (VI) suffered multiple abrasions to her right arm, shoulder and a lesion to her forehead according to what the court was told.
It now cost Smith way more than $100.00
On Friday May 19, 2017, Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards ordered Mr. Smith to pay a total $6,300 for stealing from and beating the stripper who he claimed did not give him his money’s worth of service for his $100.00.
He has to pay back immediately the $300.00 cash he took from her purse. In addition, Smith will have to pay $4,000 fine for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and another $2,000 for theft, which he has to pay by September of this year.
Our newsroom has the full legal name and dancer name of the young lady but will withhold.
VI & Strip Clubs
There are some four Strip Clubs on Tortola along with one whorehouse. Studies have showed in developed countries where such clubs and sex for sale are available, rape is low. It is unclear if such a study was ever conducted in the VI.
