Gov't lacks transparency; No regards for HoA rules - Hon Andrew A. Fahie
This is not the first time that the ruling National Democratic Party Government has put down the highly anticipated Questions and Answers to very late into the proceedings of the House, much to the dissatisfaction of the two-member Opposition.
According to Hon Fahie, it is clear that the repositioning of the Questions and Answers to the bottom of the agenda once again demonstrates “the NDP Government’s lack of commitment to Transparency, Good Governance and the work of the Opposition on behalf of the People of the Virgin Islands.”
Hon Fahie further stated in a press release, issued moments ago, that Government members read a total of eight (8) statements, which spoke about increasing the salaries of its members while owing many vendors for months, and returned bills for their 2nd and 3rd readings in record time before the public was given ample time to give their views.
“And yet, the one item on the Order of the Day, which will ensure Good Governance continues to be given the lowest value of importance by this NDP Government.”
Hon Fahie vowed that as a Member of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition and an elected Member of the Highest law making body in the VI, House of Assembly, he will continue to be steadfast in purpose and diligent in actions to ensure that transparency, accountability, value for money and democracy remain the order of the day and not only when and how this Government sees fit.
Earlier the Opposition Members also clashed with the Speaker of the House Hon Ingrid A. Moses about a lengthy statement given by Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) while laying a document on energy on the table of the HoA.
The Members argued that the Standing Orders did not allow for Hon Vanterpool to do so, however, they were overruled by the Speaker.

Lot of bogus contracts was given out to move that dirt from one side of the road to the other and then back over again.
