ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Government of the Virgin Islands signed a contract for consultancy services for the National Sewerage Programme in the sum of $408,000.00.

The contract was signed in May with FDL Consult Inc. to render services which include:

  • Review of preliminary designs for the sewerage systems at Cane Garden Bay;
  • Review of the existing designs for East End;
  • Review of the recommendations for lift stations for the Road Town Sewer network;
  • Conduct all engineering services necessary to update any design gaps;
  • Contract administration and construction supervision;

Assistant Secretary for the Ministry of Communications and Works, Ms. Haley Trott said, “After the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria the sewerage infrastructure was severely compromised, reversing advancements that were already made to improve networks.”

Ms. Trott explained that Cane Garden Bay lift stations sustained severe damage with complete loss of lift stations near the sea, loss and damage to switch boxes and damaged control panels. Additionally, the Road Town Sewerage System is in poor condition with collapsed panel boxes, missing door panels and two stations which have been decommissioned. The sewerage system in East End remains nonoperational.

A statement from FDL Consult Inc. reads, “The recovery and development plan for the Territory proposes to rehabilitate damaged components of the network as well as complete the current scope of the National Sewerage Programme, with a view to building a resilient and dependable network to serve various communities in the Territory.”

The Ministry of Communications and Works is committed to bettering the lives of residents and visitors to the Virgin Islands and building a strong Sewer Infrastructure network which is reliable and sustainable for the Territory.
