VIRGIN GORDA– Gordon Overing, 53, has been named Executive Managing Director for the Bitter End Yacht Club, a five-star luxury watersport resort on Virgin Gorda in the [British] Virgin Islands, with corporate headquarters in Chicago and Connecticut.

Returning to the resort after seven years, Overing will oversee a refresh of the resort and conversion of the south end to residential villas as well as the day-to-day operations, sales and marketing, and management of 180 employees for the 84-room resort.

“Gordon understands the Bitter End Ethos. He brings a unique balance of extensive remote luxury resort experience with superb knowledge and passion for Caribbean watersports that will inspire the Bitter End’s service-focused team and experts to exceed the expectations of the discerning adventure traveler we welcome,” says Dana Hokin, president of the Bitter End Yacht Club.  “We are fortunate to have him back to lead our team as we enter the milestone year ahead,” she adds.

Overing brings 26 years of luxury resort management, marketing, and expert watersport experience to the team, along with an intimate knowledge of the property after having spent 16 years leading the guest activities and food and beverage operations for the Bitter End Yacht Club. After leaving the Bitter End in 2006, he spent several years working for luxury resort brands as the Villa Services Manager for The Mustique Company in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and General Manager for Sir Richard Branson’s private retreat, Necker Island, in the British Virgin Islands.

Overing is an accomplished swimmer having been a member of the 1979 Canadian World Student Games Swim Team and Head Coach for the Dorval Swim Club from 1992 – 1996 in Quebec. Born in Montreal, Canada, Overing has traveled all over the world including Europe, South America, Africa, and throughout the Caribbean. He earned a degree in arts recreation administration at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. He currently resides in Virgin Gorda with his wife and two children and enjoys swimming, skiing, hiking, and windsurfing.

 About Bitter End Yacht Club:

A sailing, kite-boarding, and watersports mecca, Bitter End Yacht Club is located on the protected waters of North Sound on the sunny remote island of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, just 12 miles from Tortola, 30 miles from St. Thomas, and 75 miles from Puerto Rico.

Accessible only by water as the last island outpost before the open waters of the Atlantic, Bitter End is comfortably nestled into 75 acres of land and more than a mile of waterfront on the northeast extremity of Virgin Gorda. The resort features 84 beachfront, bungalow-style guest rooms, the world’s largest complimentary fleet of watercraft, 70 moorings and 20 slips, an on-site sailing school, two restaurants, a full-service spa, a provisioning Emporium, shops, a freshwater pool and three private beaches. The barefoot elegance that characterizes this island outpost is why Bitter End is regularly hailed as one of the top full-service resorts in the world. In November 2012, Condé Nast Traveler readers ranked Bitter End Yacht Club one of the top resorts in the Caribbean.

Beginning in early 2014, the resort will close the south villa buildings to convert the area into a residential villa property, offering guests the opportunity to call the Bitter End home. In the 2014 season, the resort will also be expanding their watersport program by introducing an Adventure Center that will position more activities on Eustatia Sound.
