ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Principal of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School Ms Marieta C. Flax-Headley has been told that she should no longer cry to the Ministry of Education and Culture about the excruciating heat in the school’s auditorium and the need to have air condition units installed.

Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn said she should now go to her “new parents” for help in that regard. He made the remark during the official adoption ceremony by telecommunications company Digicel of the Althea Scatliffe School at the school’s auditorium on Monday September 26, 2016.

“…Now I call them your parents deliberately because Ms Flax Headley will keep off of me and go to her parents! Every time I come to this school Ms [Flax] Headley says to me, “Minister I want an air-condition unit everybody fanning this morning”. Ms Headley, you have a parent now and you ask your parents to put the a/c units in your school,” he said.

Digicel has already made some $5,000 available to the educational facility as part of the Adopt a School Programme initiated in 2007 by the Virgin Islands Adopt a School Committee and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Kudos to Digicel

The Education and Culture Minister mentioned that Digicel is very much involved in education and in the community and is assisting in several other areas such as installing high-speed internet at schools and aiding in providing jobs for many young people of the territory.

“…I want to thank them very much for that. The Government cannot do it all by itself and sometimes we may not always have the money to do everything you need but it is good when members of the community can come forward and say we are going to assist and we are going to be good corporate citizens,” Hon Walwyn said.

Well look trouble for me, is he really functioning right. Even if he had that thought in his mine, he should have said it privately to the principal and not openly. Maybe and I say just maybe that's the same thing he is saying to other principals, "send the list home to the parents, let them provide supplies for their kids".

This can't be true. If he really said that, he must be really losing it and needs to check himself in to the 9th floor, for this is quite abnormal reasoning.

What 'good corporate citizenry' has the MVW group of companies done in their lifetime of existence? I mean no offense; but seems like the catering to HOA could've donated a couple mini-split air-cons to ASPS since the Minister has investments within the 'city'. Lead by example since you and your ilk have profited off the tax-payers back for years now - just like how ayo boys LUV dem Burberry ties and suits - the futrue of the BVI need to be comfortable to learn as to not be sheeple when voting for the likes of the current crop!

Myrun Walwyn, here is a news flash! Digicel is exerting some exemplary corporate social responsibility (CSR) but the responsibility for providing for the thermal comfort of students, teachers and support staff at the Mighty Scatliffe Primary School, as well as all other public schools and educational institutions in the VI. Is Walwyn admitting that he is not up to the job. Premier, it may be time for a cabinet reshuffle, if you are up to it.
