ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A young man, Glenville Callwood, appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday Monday May 30, 2016 charged with theft.

He is said to have broken into the home of a woman in Baughers Bay on the main island of Tortola and attempted to steal articles belonging to her.

The court heard that on November 5, 2015 at about 3:00 am the woman who was said to be "between sleep and wake" saw a "shadowy figure" over her nightstand in her bedroom and she started to scream, causing the thief to drop one of the items he had in his hands.

However, he managed to hold on to a handbag which he took with him as he fled to another room in the house where he got briefly entangled with a curtain.

The "shadowy figure" then fled outside and eventually dropped the other item he was holding.

The court heard that the virtual complainant and her roommate recognised Callwood with whom they are acquainted with as he ran under a streetlight.

Callwood was charged following a report which was made to the Police. He is to return to court on July 4, 2016 to face additional charges.

The court heard too that Callwood has a long “rap sheet” which includes handling stolen goods, burglary, criminal damage and criminal trespass.
