PURCELL ESTATE, Tortola, VI- The body of Mr Freddie F. Freeman was found at his Jean Hill, Tortola home on December 25, 2017 around 7:30 P.M.

Today, January 25, 2018 the late businessman and Virgin Islander was laid to rest after a quiet and emotional closed-casket ceremony attended by family and close friends at Davis Funeral Home in Purcell Estate on the main island of Tortola.

It is our newsroom’s understanding that foul play was not suspected in Mr Freeman's sudden passing last month when it was reported that his body had started to decompose.

The funeral service was led by Pastor Pearl Smith and assisted by Robert Wright, Phd, aka ‘Storm,’ with organist being former Police Commissioner Reynell Frazer.

Many who spoke said Freddie was a quiet man who lived a simple life after returning to the Territory from the United States of America where he was most often seen but not heard.

Survivors & mourners

The late Freeman is survived by brothers Kenneth Freeman, Dale Williams, Vincent Thomas and Sister Cecily Malone, sister in law Anneka Freeman and great niece Renee Smith.

Mourners at the funeral service today, included Leader of the Opposition and Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) Junior Minister for Tourism Archibald C. Christian (AL) former Deputy Premier Attorney R. Dancia Penn QC, former Speaker of the Legislative Council  Reuben Vanterpool, along with former Permanent Secretaries Mrs Josephine Callwood and Mr Julian Willock.

The body of the late Freddie F. Freeman was buried at the Family Burial Ground at Fahie Hill.

I don't know why some of you have Dancia as a savior of BVI politics. I was an NDP but this time I am supporting my former teacher and mentor Fahie and the VIP with or without Dancia and hopefully without.

Rest in peace my dear friend. I was so sad to hear of his passing. Less than a year ago, I went looking for him all the way down Josiah's Bay at his museum, the last place we sat and chatted like we always did when we got together, only to discover things had shut down there. Could not find him on social media. Communication went still. Oh Freddie, you were such a wonderful, quiet and peaceful soul. I will miss you. Rest on.
