BEEF ISLAND, VI - Sometime after 8:00 PM this evening, Friday, December 28, 2018, a Fly BVI aircraft—a Cessna 404—crash landed at Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island.

The plane with registration number N97AQ crash landed with its landing gears up and forced the airport to close.

Due to that, an aircraft trying to land was circling for over an hour, while about two other flights were delayed in their departure.

Plane removed but caused many delays

While the name of the Pilot is believed to be Capt. Jeffrey Brown, it is unclear how many passengers were on board and if anyone was injured.

A crane moments ago lifted the airplane off the runway, after which the landing gear was able to be extended. The Fly BVI plane was then pulled off the runway.

Airport personnel including the Fire and Recuse Division conducted a Foreign Object Debris (FOD) walk of the runway before the airport could be reopened.

BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) officials did not immediately respond to inquiries from Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) on the accident.

However, VINO will bring more information once it becomes available.

that’s why we need to maintain top quality equipment;adequate response units and personnel at that port of entry: we have to sustain our growth, as an example we currently have far bigger vehicles and far more cars on roadways which were built back in the 70s: we now have those big garbage trucks; trailer trucks
10 yard tucks: the volume of airlift at TB Lettsome have increased; as BVI continue to progress the size of aircraft will increase making it vital to have the proper medical measures in place.

If the pilot landed the plane without landing gear and from the pic it looks like he did an awesome job in keeping the plane in one piece in horrid conditions. Congrats to the pilot I think are in order for what must have been a traumatic experience.
