ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Directors of the BVI Tourist Board have renewed the contract of its Tourist Board Director, Ms Sharon P. Flax-Brutus.

This is according to senior sources close to the Board, who told our newsroom that they have agreed to the renewal for another three years starting January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021.

Ms Flax-Brutus, a Tourism sector veteran was first appointed Director in 2013.

The terms and conditions of her contract renewal are not yet known, however, some have claimed, it may have been an attempt to tie the hands of the new government.

Her Deputy Director is Rhodni A. Skelton, the son of former Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) who now heads a National Democratic Party (NDP) breakaway group called Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM).

Good track record

Over Ms Flax-Brutus’ tenure at the Tourist Board, she has done much to improve the Territory’s tourism product, advertise the Virgin Islands (VI) in new markets, and found ways to keep the Territory competitive, even as new emerging regional destinations like Cuba and Haiti, threatens the local industry.

She has also created the BVI Food Fete, the Staycation programme, along with the now famous Anegada Lobster Festival, all successful initiatives.

Despite her efforts, the NDP Government has not supported her by increasing the Tourism Board's Budget and they have only paid ‘lip service’ to the sector according to industry insiders.

The next government will be VIP and there will no worries. MRS. flax Brutus has done a fantastic job and will remain. Skelton is a waste of time. He does nothing at BViTB. Talk about a political appointment that is Ra Skelton

The boy been there for over 10 years. He start lAnegada fest and push Food Fest. Speaks better than any of them. Clean up campaigns. Film he brought in a and classes for students. Ask any agency who they prefer to work with. What political appointment? Stop the madness. Always bringing down your own for no reason.Sharon was political appointed by MVW and extended now by MVW. From HR at Lil Dix to director of Tourism? Now tell me if that is not political. Months before an election? Why not one year extension instead?

...you would really ask the folks who they prefer to work with. You will be very surprised. What they telling him to his face and saying being his back is 2 different things.

He did not start ALF nor was it his idea. Talk about taking credit falsely. The idea was Kaletha Henry’s, Sam Henry’s wife. Let’s face it Ra has never been a person with a good work ethic. He talks a good talk but does not walk the walk. Don’t get me wrong. He has a great personality but that’s about it. Set an example for your staff. At least show up to work on time

Push Food Fest? That event was a non starter until the new Events Cordinator came to the Board. SHE is the driving force behind Food Fete. Skelton is a failure. He killed the music fest. Clive McCoy turned the Film Commission around. Rhodni who? Come again. Who know, know. SMDH.

All those things been in place all while she been Little Dix or other people create them. Strupes. This is just a politics trick to try tie the next government into buying out her contract to get rid of her in three months. Nobody wants to work with she. Everybody knows this. They just costing us unecessary taxpayer dollars with this NDP move.
