ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With the likes of ‘The Voice’ winner Tessanne Chin, the A-Team band, Rupee, Iwer George, Revelation, VIBE and the intrigue dancers the celebratory activities for the 2014 Festival of the Virgin Islands came to a close last night August 9, 2014.

It was a night shared among several locations across the Territory as persons spread throughout to catch a glimpse of the signature event that marked the closing, the fire-work display. Strategic points included the Queen Elizabeth Park, Central Administration Complex, Road Town Jetty, CSY Dock, Jean Hill, Fort Hill and the Paul Wattley Drive.

While for some the display was spectacular, there were those who felt it could have been longer especially for the children who stayed up just to savour that moment.

“That looked like 60 seconds of fireworks for the 60th they could have invested some more money and give the children especially something better, a little longer it’s not something they see regularly in the BVI like children do in places like St. Thomas,” said one taxi driver who choose not to be named.

Others absorbed what was given and most headed back to the Iris Freeman Festiville where they spent the rest of the night enjoying the live entertainment of Tessanne Chin, the A-Team band, Rupee, Iwer George, 2014 Road March Champion VIBE, the local dance group intrigue dancers and VI’s own reggae artist ‘Revelation’ who put in the culture flare to the music of the night.

    Photos 49, 50 and 51. Yes, it is a festive time for merriment and all that comes with it but come on! Most times I am sure people displaying this sort of behaviour are often intoxicated. It must be a bad feeling watching oneself in these pics when sober.

    Cant complain about how long the display was as the fireworks lasted about 8 minutes but a lot just rocketed straight to the air and disappeared without the sparks branching off to create the light show and the committee advertised a 10pm start and had everybody on the hills waiting in vain until 11pm.
