POCKWOOD POND, Tortola, VI – The ‘troublesome’ garbage incinerator at Pockwood Pond, today November 26, 2018, burst into flames, when a fire broke out uncontrollably at the facility.

According to reports, members of the corporate community are currently assisting with the Fire Services, in order to bring the blaze under control.

Up to publication time, plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the incinerator, affecting residents, as it permeates the atmosphere over to the western end of Tortola.

The public has since been advised of the fire at the Pockwood Pond incinerator and are asked to avoid the area.

According to reports, the fire may have resulted from the explosion of an LPG tank.

The building and garbage in the surrounding areas were also set ablaze.

    persons live or working in that zone will soon end up with health issues: those hazardous sites must be given the correct tools to adequately manage those sites: when things malfunction its our residents that suffers and put up unhealthy conditions: I assume they have a procedure in place to separate the various waste products.(now we only surposing!!!!)

    I’d guess that the incinerator is “troublesome” because it’s probably not properly operated and managed. It might not even have been correctly commissioned. If memory serves, it sat around for 5 or 6 years until soneine got a $ 1 million contract to wire it up.
