ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Detectives from the Major Crime Investigations Team are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for the murder of 34 year old Erran Charles and injuring 17 year old Guilky Thomas.

According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a press release on February 3, 2020, it was on Sunday February 3, 2019, at around 9:10pm, both victims were at the basketball court in Huntums Ghut when two unidentified persons arrived at their location and fired a number of gunshots in their direction.

“Immediately after the shots were fired 2 males were seen fleeing from the scene. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds, Erran Charles sadly died as a result of his injuries and fortunately Guilky Thomas survived.”

February marks the first anniversary of this currently undetected attack; however, detectives however, are still hopeful that members of the community may have crucial information that may assist in identifying those responsible for this “senseless shooting” and to bring closure to the grieving families.

‘Who will it be next?’

The mother of Charles also joined the RVIPF to appeal to the public for assistance.

“It’s been a year and our lives will never be the same again. We are appealing for persons with information about the homicide of my son Erran Charles, to step up and come forward. There is somebody walking around who took the life of an aspiring young man. It was my son. Who will it be next? Will it be your children, a family member?

“Please I am urging you, don’t sit by idly and wait until your homes have been shattered by the same acts of cowardly violence. It could have been your son, your loved one! Find it in your heart to come forward, any minor information that may seem irrelevant to you may be the missing clue that authorities may need to apprehend the person or persons responsible for this heinous crime.

“If you have any information that will help solve this crime and stop these forms of violence please, please, we are pleading for your help.”

Anyone with information relating to these crimes are urged to contact Detective Inspector Vernon Larocque; directly on 368-9809 or the Major Crime Investigation Team on 368-5682.

According to the RVIPF, all information will be treated with the strictest confidence.

Many times I have felt the pain and heartache of friends and families of those who were killed by the evil that lurks around us. But, there are also many times, where I hold onto hope that justice WILL be served to all the killers....it may not be today or tomorrow....but the day will come when justice will be served.

People know and they choose not to say anything. All you have to do is write the person/s name on a paper and slip the paper with the name of the person under the victim family door and walk away. I heard on the streets that one of the person responsible is already in prison for something else and there is a hit squad looking for the other one. So if you know who this person is, you need to keep your distance just in the event they make their move on him.

In a small society like the BVIs, people know but won't come forward. That makes those who know accomplices, whether they like it or not. Not coming forward basically sends the message that we're OK with criminal behavior.

Your police officers are the worst. All these unsolved murders they know who the killers are but refuse to help because they are getting paid to keep their mouths shut, Or its their own family members. So unfair that families have to go through the same pain every year because of greed and selfishness. #justice for all the families and these unsolved murders.
