ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Due to inclement weather, the stage activities at the Prime Time Festiville in Road Town have been cancelled this evening, July 31, 2019.

The evening was dubbed 'Culture Night VI' and would have seen entertainment by Lashing Dogs, Cool Session Brass, Nadia Batson Lyrical and Triple Kay.

According to reports, rainfall throughout the day has left the grounds slushy.

The cancellation was also confirmed by Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee (VIF&FC) Mr Carnel D. Clyne.

“We are cancelling [the activities] tonight, yes,” Mr Clyne told Virgin Islands News Online.

Last Sunday’s activities were also cancelled due to poor weather.

Heavy showers expected to continue for next few hours- DDM

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said on its Facebook page minutes ago that lingering moisture is expected to affect the territory for the next few hours before a high pressure system moves into the area.

For tomorrow, it said, a drier air mass with some Saharan dust will affect the region. However, passing showers will remain possible. Highs will reach the lower 90s in the lower elevations and winds will be out of the east at 10 to 15 mph with stronger gusts.

“Across the local waters, seas up to 6 feet and winds up to 20 knots are expected. Therefore, small craft operators are urged to exercise caution in near shore waters.”

In addition, the Department of Disaster Management said it is monitoring another tropical wave in the far Eastern Atlantic. Residents are urged to monitor this system as forecasters have indicated the possibility of further development before it reaches the Lesser Antilles.
