VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Jazz is a thing that is the heart and soul of the group ‘Bayside Rhythms’ with the likes of Wasi Philbert, Kamu Georges, Delan Vanterpool and others.

When the Board of Directors of the St Mary’s Primary School decided to place the annual fundraiser in their hands, they did it with every confidence that it would be a ‘hit’ and to a standard second to none.

‘Jazz on the Hill’ is one of the quintessential musical events of the Caribbean and promises to delight, inspire and uplift this year with a combination of R&B, pop, soul, and gospel and of course, jazz.

This is something Mr Philbert has assured this news site would be nothing less than expected as they, ‘Bayside Rhythms’ are going into the organizing and execution of the event as they would have their own.

“Playing such a role in education is something we are always committed to and we can assure the directors of St Mary’s Primary School that this is going to be one of their best every Jazz on the Hill,” Philbert told this news site in an exclusive interview on Thursday April 24, 2014.

“It’s now a Bayside Rhythms produced event and they would get the very quality and energy that we give to all the events we produce as Bayside Rhythms and Love City Live, that’s an assurance. We would not be doing our regular show that is usual around this time. We are giving all our resources towards Jazz on the Hill all in the name of investing in education,” assured Mr Philbert.

The 9th annual Jazz on the Hill is scheduled for May 31, 2014 on the Hills at St Mary’s Primary School. It is an event that is described as a ‘Not to be missed Jazz on the Hill Musical Concert series’ which will be feature the International Jazz Sensation of Julie Dexter.

Additionally Kamu Georges, Delan Vanterpool, Calden James and Ouida are currently working on putting a feature called ‘D Spot Jazz’, one that promises to light the skies and the jazz flare of fans in a way that has never been seen or heard before.

The Latino community and other lovers of Latin music are also being catered to at this year’s Jazz on the Hill as there will be a special session with Ruben and the Latin Jazz combination.

“Sometimes you have to do things that would account for the good future of others in this case it’s the students of the St Mary’s school, not our pockets [but] the children’s education endeavours,” noted Philbert.

He told this news site that it is not the first time that Bayside Rhythms is investing in education as they have been giving back in the area of sports sponsorship and scholarships, sending persons to special musical camps. Their most recent such investment was the part they played in seeing student of the Elmore Stoutt High School, Thea Cooke successfully completing her 3-week stint at a bass guitar camp of Victor Wooten, in Tennessee, USA.

I would bet my last dollar he just changed his name to Community…(Lol;0)

Wishing them the best of luck

I am reading this with skepticism. I hope this is not one of those cases like the Frank Mahoney takeover - where the new committees after him forever made the music fest event fail. Sometimes if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it. I thought the previous organizers did extremely well and you heard them promote the artist and the music, not boast about themselves. I read this article and am still left clueless as to who is Julie Dexter. This would have been an opportune time to promote the origins of jazz, how it steeped to the Virgin Islands, and the history of Jazz on the Hills.

This Bayside group - I can see them coming with so many do’s and don’ts that they are going to spoil it. Jazz is something you got to marinate yourself in – it isn’t the newest fad to get into, to boost your ego. It ain't about you boo.

Last year the weather was not good, it rained and attendance was poor. If people forgot I didn't. Look how they trying to fool people about last year' show was a success. Reality check: If last years show was so successful they would not have decidee to give ALL the money from the show to Charity this year.

I know the organizers and they would love to know who's available. Can you list the names of some of the great jazz artist you're talking about. Better yet, send them a message via the facebook page with the contact info for these people. https://www.facebook.com/BaysideRhythms?fref=ts
