EXCLUSIVE: ‘I am really proud of my contribution’ – Kamau A. Georges
“I am really happy to be a part of this cause because I am into education, I am into coaching, I am into mentoring, I am into uplifting in any way with positive messages. I love to lend my music to that. I love that my music has a direct mission and a meaning that’s uplifting and I love when I can see it having that impact,” said Georges.
The campaign is called 'band together project' and can be followed at bandtogether.com. It is ultimately being undertaken by the makers of Epiduo and the pacer National Bullying Prevention Centre as they introduce the Band Together to Banish Bullying Project.
The production is being done in the very studio where the world famous “We are the World” song was recorded some decades ago, the Henson Studios of Mr Jim Henson creator of the Muppets. This production is expected to hit the public from September 25, 2014 when it is scheduled to be released via Social Media, TV show and a number of other means.
Speaking exclusively with this news site from Los Angeles, USA, Georges said that he was invited by American DJ, producer, songwriter, radio, television personality and recording artist Mr Clinton Sparks to be a part of the production with the band Mowgli’s and Kylie Morgan, an opportunity he jumped at immediately.
“Clinton has been working with them on this project for a while and he thought that I would have some really good ideas that I could lend to it so he wanted me to be involved so he asked me to come up and contribute my ideas,” he said.
He noted that there were certain specific guidelines that are being followed in the production of the song and while he went with the intention of adding his lyrics writing skills to the production things are turning for the better as he was further asked to do a vocal piece in the song to put the Caribbean flare to it.
“Everybody (the public) submitted stories on being bullied on the website and we went through a number of the stories just to kind of connect to people’s experiences and then we wanted to make something that was uplifting and unifying that sort of brought people together and we lend ideas to that and we contributed some really good ideas to it. So I am really proud of my contributions.”
They are producing a song for the campaign and with the VI local input the Caribbean flavour is being added, thanks to Mr Georges. “In the version I have now I am actually have a feature on it where I am doing a small part in the bridge I am singing, I am actually singing a verse on it,” he told us.
This aspect materialized for him as one day while in the studio he was asked by Mr Sparks to do some soca music and when he complied everyone got excited. “They were excited. I wasn’t expecting to be a part of the song vocally,” he explained. “The part that I had everybody loved it and they really want to keep it so it looks like I am going to be a part of the song so I am really excited,” he said.
The proceeds that will be generated from the song will be going to charity said Mr Georges, something he feels proud being a part of.
He said that his involvement with children at the High School level for some seven years has caused him to be familiar with the issues and consequences of bullying.
