ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands (VI) Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building the Virgin Islands towards a path of self-determination and nation building that strengthens its people.

The Premier made the comments during the Monday, October 12, 2020, Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Road Town Market Square, while calling for Virgin Islanders to build the territory for Virgin Islanders.

Building on Ideas to strengthen the territory

“The government, being a continuum, we build on ideas and strengthen them and I also want to state that with it, we believe in our people,” Hon Fahie said regarding the project.

He said whenever he speaks about people building, some take it the wrong way, hoping that he can stop; however, the Premier said he will continue to push the mantra.

“But I cannot stop, because this territory was built on believing in the people of the Virgin Islands and we drifted from it for a little while and we have to come back to it.”

“If we continue to build our people and hold our territory until our people are ready they will take their rightful role,” he said.

Since taking office in February 2019, the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government has been true to its word in pushing to have Virgin Islanders occupy top positions in the territory as an act of confidence in its local people. Only over a week ago, the first local Attorney General in 21 years, Dawn J. Smith, was sworn in to the House of Assembly.

Future is coming whether you want or not – Hon Fahie

Premier Fahie, speaking to the gathering at the Groundbreaking Ceremony, further called for progression towards self-reliance and determination one step at a time.

“In the road towards self-reliance, which must come one of these days, every step we make, every thought we think, everything that we do must reflect that we are moving towards that level.”

According to the Leader of Government Business, “Because the future is coming whether you want it or not, you have a determination to be prepared for when the future comes because if not the future will prepare for you and usually that kind of preparation is not good.”

You don’t have any choice but self determination if you’re keeping the place on lockdown.

At least vino doesn't do like the other website BVI NEWS who is working with the funny man group to only allow the blogs against the VIP to be posted and block the blogs for them.

I agree with the Premier. This Government is doing good. I post this same comment on BVI news but as usual only the bad about the Government they are posting. It is a set up to try to programme the people's mind against the government.

As for Rite now that can't be our focus... We need to focus on building our economy... What's the opening borders plan, we still waiting? What's the financial services sustainable plan. ? . What's the agriculture plan? . We have so much things to focus on wonder how they find time to talk about independence...

Each paper has a bias. Still think nonetheless that vino is the only online paper worth reading. Just last weekend for 3 days one had the same news up. No additions of any kind. Safe to say that nothing note worthy happened in bvi for 3 days.

Independence is not bad but you have to be ready and prepared. Yes, almost every boy and girl can't wait to become adults to go on their own,( independent) but a lot of them runs back home because they thought that they were ready but unfortunately they were not.
However between the boy and girl, the difference between BVI and London and Independence is that the boy and girl although they became adults, they can run back home but the BVI will not be able to.
I am VIP by heart but I do not like Lawlessness and disrespectful behavior.
And I will like to speak to my Premier and let him know that he has something good going and please do not spoil it by exhibiting those two traits.

ANDREW TO BE A GOOD LEADER YOU MUST FOLLOW THE LAW ( CONSTITUTION) AND NOT HOW YOU FEEL. DO NOT MAKE THE FINANCIAL DONORS OR SUPPORTERS LEAD YOU ASTRAY.
YOU SAID THAT YOU BELIEVE IN GOD SO PLEASE PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH.

I AM LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THE GOVERNOR UNDER THE CONSTITUTION HAS CERTAIN POWERS WHICH YOU MUST RESPECT IF YOU WANT TO BE RESPECTED.

ALSO I WILL LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE FORCE UNDER THE CONSTITUTION THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SECURITY OF THE BVI AND THAT IS THE ROYAL VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE FORCE AND THIS BEGINS AS YOU ENTER THE TERRITORIAL WATERS AND NO OTHER GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT .

THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON THAT IS RESPONSIBLE TO REPORT TO THE GOVERNOR AND YOU ON THE SECURITY OF THE BVI AND THAT IS THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE AND NO OTHER COMMISSIONER.

DO NOT BE FOOLED OR MISLEAD FOR PERSONAL INTEREST BY ANY OTHER COMMISSIONER.

LET YOUR AG DIRECT YOU ON THE LAW.

    PLEASE FOR GOD SAKE.

Premier Fahie, Suppose the UK is to offer the Territory Independence lets say next or the following year, are you in a position to accept it? Let us be careful of what we ask for. Why not hold a referendum to see how the people feel about the topic? Having one person blogging several times under different names or one man pushing and irritating the UK should not determine the way forward for the Territory.
