BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – Amidst the conversation surrounding immigration reform in the Virgin Islands (VI), Talk show host Cromwell Smith aka 'Edju En Ka', who hosts ‘Umoja’, Thursday nights on ZBVI 780 AM, is imploring people of African ancestry in the VI to unite as one despite differences in nationality and origin.

'Edju En Ka' made the comments on his ‘Umoja’ show on Thursday, June 8, 2019, where he implored that despite differences, other groups unite knowing 'unity is key', yet, despite this, the people of the Virgin Islands and ‘Africans’ in general will always find ways to keep themselves divided.

Unity is Success

“I’ve heard you say many times, you the listening audience… and you know who you are that every other group can unify and get themselves together, except our group people of African descent,” Mr Smith said to his listening audience.

According to the ZBVI Radio host, “And we also say how successful these other groups are because they are united and it’s just interesting… kind of strange that we know that [unity is key], but we also always look for ways to divide us and divide ourselves and we need to take a good look at this.”

Following the launch and announcement of the Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) led, ‘Fast Track’ initiative, as part of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) plans to regularise undocumented immigrants in the territory, Mr Smith has accused locals of xenophobia, fueled by bitterness, hatred and malice.

“We know that unity is the key to our success but still we look for ways to separate ourselves from each other,” he implored.

Toxic Disunity

He says people of African descent will go as far as separating themselves by nationality, religion, and even skin colour shade, “in whatever ways we can think of to call ourselves unique, we find those ways.”

“A French white man is a white man, a Canadian white man is a white man, a British white man is a white man,” Mr Edju En Ka further said to reaffirm his earlier statements.

“But when it comes to African, he is a Jamaica, a Vincentian, a Christian, a Muslim, he’s a BVI Islander, he’s everything else except African… you dare not call him African, because he’s ready to kill you.”

Yes Cromwell. I'm seeing a whole lot of unity in USA, Asia, South America and Europe.

You need to recognize the fact that YOU are OUTDATED and UNINFORMED.

I personally concluded the dysfunction began way back: you had the house negro and we also had the field negro: the house negro did the upmost to ensure the cotton picking negro & the cane cutting negro will not make it into house to disrupt the pleasure: there is a top ranking saying divide & Conquer....how good & pleasant it will be for idren & sisdren to live in love & Unity: it is customary for people to come together during a disaster however once things simmer down we go right back to business as usual: it is life and not every factor of life holds an explanation

I understand what that gentleman is saying. I see us as one Caribbean, so extending to people from other Caribbean islands is no problem to me. However, this initiative is not just for them. It is for any race from any country who has been in the BVI for a given period of time. I am sure you do not want another race to be the legal majority in your place. For the record, that is self preservation, not racism! There is a big difference.

This is not only a BVI issue..the whole Caribbean has simular issues such as these ..
Mr Crommel the BVI Islanders sìmply dont want to be at the ^bottom of the barrel" in their own country
My question is "Would persons of other Caribbean islands tolerate such whats happenning in their country?

It is amazing that whenever BVIslanders hook up with outsiders they aggressively fend for them,Tell me Mr Smith ,how many Caribbean countries or Guyana would readily offer residency or Belongers status to BVIlanders. It is coon enient to claim African heritage when it suits our purpose.

My 2 cents, we may have African blood in us but we are not Africans. It is true that BLACK people to some extent do not
unite and that is one of the issues that has keep us down. Not all races of people unite for the common good, there are divisions in every race on people on this earth, what unites people is a common cause which can be social or commerical and we see that in the BVI and other countries with the social clubs and formation of business ventures.
Nationalism is very important to every human being, the vast majority of people are proud of their country and will die to protect it. They have every right to call themselves what their nationality is and be proud of doing so. Don't call me African because I was not born in Africa.

Undoubtedly, the African diaspora in the west is not united; disunity rules. The power of unity among the diaspora has not hit home as yet. There disunity on the African continent; Africa is one of the richest continent yet its masses are some of the poorest in the world. Corruption and mismanagement are common place with a few benefitting while the many suffering. The few colluding with the rich at expense of the masses. Others benefit from African wealth while the African masses live in abject poverty, Imagine if Africa grasped its value and unite. Anyway the disunity among the diaspora in the west is due to the strong conditioning, divide and rule.........etc employed by plantation owners. For example, on the plantations, there were 3 types of negroes, ie, the house negroes ( lighter skin), yard negroes and field negroes. None of the three like one another. The house hated the yard and the yard vice versa and the field hated them both. That is why there were few successful uprisings, for some body always told “Massa” The plantations owners went to all extent to keep slaves enslaved. Check out the Slave Bible. Any passages against servitude was redacted. There is a copy in Museum of Religion in Washington DC. The conditioning is still working. We are still self hating, even after hundred of years. We hate to see each other get along. We have forgotten that each one teach one. We prefer others get along at the expense of our own. Bunch of crabs; crabs in bucket syndrome.

All of you are liars. We are NOT fully Black or Africans. We are mixed with other races. We are supposed to call ourselves Blacks/Africans because that is what the other races want. I am MIXED ...

So are many Europeans, but they would never admit to it. But we Africans love too. Why?? Because they, ‘just like you’ hate the African blood in their body. Why? The truth of the matter is that All of mankind came from an African man and woman. God has a way of humbling the fellowship of the fools. The one race that is hated and scorned above all is that very race that the Lord Jesus Christ the God of all creation built ALL races of mankind from.

They tested the bloodline of all races of humans on each continent of the world to find the oldest DNA and when they discovered it to be the Africans they took that DNA test a few more times hoping for a more clearer ‘whiter’ result, hoping against all hope that it was wrong! That it was tainted with just a little Europeans, Asian, Indian blood.... they hoped that it too was A LITTLE MIXED UP!

At that moment I wish I could have seen God smile...God is Good! Yes He is!!! LOL..

The level of black vs black racism in the BVI is appalling. Absolutely stunning.
