ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The VIBD Basketball 5th Annual District King League concluded last weekend at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex with Championship wins for District 9, in the 11-13 year olds and District 4 in the 14-16 year old division.

In the 11-13’s District 3 found themselves up against a well disciplined and drilled District 9, who took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second quarter to reach the break 19-4 ahead and never look back in a 36-19 victory.

They pulled further ahead in the third period, to lead by 16 and despite a more spirited offensive display in the 4th quarter by District 3, the Virgin Gorda based outfit always had the game under control to run out worthy winners.

For District 9 Kevon Stevens had 16 points and picked off 4 steals, whilst Stephone Paul had 6 points with 9 rebounds.

For District 3 K’Andre Clarke finished with 7 points and 3 rebounds, Timothy Lewis 4 points, 2 steals and Ajai Frett 4 points.

The 14-16’s then put on a strange show with a turgid first quarter finishing all square at just 3-3. District 4 then pulled away slightly in the second quarter to be up by 4 points at the half way mark and held on for a 34-32 win.

The third period saw another deadlocked performance with both teams scoring 9, before, in the final quarter, District 4 withstood the late surge from District 8 to hold on and claim the Championship.

District 4 were led by Lestin Wiltshire Junior who scored 10 points with 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. Jachoy Walwyn added 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 steals whilst Dante Vanterpool had 6 points and Revaughn Sprauve 4.

For District 8 Hakeem Penn had 16 points and 4 rebounds, Neville Smith Junior 5 points, 5 rebounds and Jason Parks 4 points.

VIBD Basketball organizers will be announcing an all star weekend with a Closing ceremony shortly.
