ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Digicel BVI announced, on Tuesday May 13, 2014, that it is the Platinum Sponsor of the VI’s first Digicel Football Centre of Excellence, partnering with the BVI Football Association on a two-year programme.

As Platinum Sponsor, Digicel will donate $10,000 to the Association as they embark on a two-year training and development programme.

“The Digicel Centre of Excellence is about offering opportunities to children who have shown ability in football to develop their skills further and potentially to go on to represent the BVI regionally and internationally. These are extraordinary children with already established skills, and the Digicel Centre of Excellence will build on that,” commented Digicel BVI CEO, Declan Cassidy.

The weekly programme will begin next month and benefit 60 of the BVI’s talented children from Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Anegada. The participants, boys and girls aged twelve to eighteen, were selected from schools throughout the Territory based on their current ability and skill set.

Coaching will take place each weekend with the BVIFA Technical Director, Mr. Keith Grell Griffith and assistant technical staff.

The coaching will build on developing the key skills of football such as correct technique, passing, controlling, dribbling, shooting, goal keeping, etc.

BVIFA President, Mr. Andy Bickerton commented, "The BVIFA is excited to be partnering with Digicel to bring fruition to one of its long-term strategic projects, namely a Centre of Excellence out of which our youth players will be able fulfil their dreams as footballers and receive the highest quality training on and off the field that the modern game demands.”

Just a little "something" to show that they do have a heart and that honesty is the best policy!
