OIL NUT BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Falling in the month of its 5th anniversary, Digicel launched one of its newest features, ‘Digicel Business’, in sophisticated style with almost all its business partners at Oil Nut Bay, Virgin Gorda last evening November 22, 2013.

“It’s a separate arm to our current Digicel BVI operations, focusing on the cooperate community of the BVI,” said Digicel’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Declan Cassidy in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online at last night’s launch.

In November of 2008, Digicel launched its operations in the Virgin Islands and, according to Mr Cassidy, it was a move that the company has never regretted. He said over the short period of the five years they have seen significant growth and the charting of new and innovative business concepts which were well received and supported by the general community of the VI.

Digicel Business is now their newest feature. “It’s a very important message that we are no longer a mobile phone provider. We have customers in the BVI who we connect from the BVI offices to global offices, whether it is Hong Kong or London, we do data connectivity,” he explained further.

He said many businesses in the VI have dedicated business connectivity access. “We do out bound voices from your phone systems, we design your phone systems, we design solutions…” According to the CEO, the new arm of the company has taken into serious consideration that the territory exists in a hurricane belt which spurred them to design a disaster recovery.

“We just launch a partnership with French Mango, CISCO, where we do disaster recovery so you don’t need to hit the states, we store it right here in the BVI, it doesn’t need to go off BVI,” he explained.

Digicel also said it has a fully dedicated and competent technical and otherwise necessary staff that is well capable of handling the new unit.

Oil Nut Bay Resort was graced with a large number of business partners of Digicel who all shared their support and appreciation for the new unit of Digicel. Among those who spoke highly of the Digicel Business Unit was Executive Chairman of Road Town Wholesale, (RTW) Mrs Delma Maduro.

“This level of innovation and experience comes as no surprise to us at RTW as we have experienced firsthand their innovative strategies and thinking, their responsiveness and high service levels, all of which we have found to be relatively cost effective,” said Mrs Maduro.

“…just imagine being able to have your telecommunications needs evaluated and solutions recommended during the month of September, signing a contract on 22nd of October for a new CISCO PABX system with 162 extensions with many other features, and have it installed the 30th November in the same year! RTW achieved this with Digicel…” she stated.

Amidst the few speeches, the night was one which provided business entrepreneurs and management staff to mingle and to share experiences and ideas. The night was topped with an exquisite line of finger foods and live musical performances by Final Faze band.

If CCT (the Investment Club) wasn't so selfish in the beginning not letting people buy shares, they would not be in a crunch now. Little investors, which is us would then have a reason for supporting them now, but they were selfish, and here they are sucking wind.

What this means is that our locally owned CCT who is struggling, will have much less customers now. Digicel seems to have big money support behind them. I myself will stick with my LOCAL owned CCT as long as I can.
