Demming hits 40 as Lace Up beat GameTime

NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI- With plenty of bragging rights on the line, Jevonne Demming delivered a 40-point performance to help Lace Up hold off the challenge of GameTime in the Winston Jagpat Memorial League at the North Sound Basketball Court on Virgin Gorda on Saturday February 8, 2020.

Demming completed his night’s work with 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 rebound as Lace Up won 80-76.

Both teams were coming off losses and eager to get back to winning ways.

Lace Up; however, controlled the game from tip off straight to the final whistle despite a late rally by Gametime in the second half that saw them coming as close as 4 points with 1:35 seconds left in the game.

Shamaar A. George also had a good night, registering 17 points, pulling 10 rebounds, making 2 blocks and 2 steals.

The top scorers for GameTime were Deondre Rymer (18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Paul Bridgewater (17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 blocks).

Young Ballers better VG Crusaders

Also on Saturday last, Young ballers defeated VG Crusaders 72-69 in a clash of junior teams from Virgin Gorda.

Jeloni Lennard dropped in 21 points and was also effective defensively for Young Ballers with 14 rebounds.

Jadique Bowens supported with 19 points.

Leading the fightback for VG Crusaders were T’khoi Richardson (17 points) and Nekel Stevens (15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 steals).

Fan favourites DR Powers go down

One game was contested on Friday, February 7, 2020 and it was between crowd favourites DR Power and Homegrown.

DR Power traded buckets with Homegrown for the first three quarters; Homegrown was too much for their opponents.

Homegrown won 77-60, Jolyon Wilson top scoring with 16 points and recording 8 rebounds and Frank Quashie, 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Dr Power’s Noel Frias again had a stellar night, netting a game high 27 points, pulling 15 rebounds and making 2 blocks; however, his heroics were unable to stave off defeat.

Weekend’s games

Play continues this evening, February 14, 2020 with Young Ballers vs Crusaders from 7:30pm and LDB Explorers against Ice Connection from 9:30pm.

On Saturday, February 15, 2020, the opening game will be a clash of the old stars, with the 40 plus players from Tortola taking on their VG counterparts.

LDB Explorers will then face GameTime.
