The KPMG innings showed some promise as Lovat Carnelley launched a stunning lofted drive for 4 off Vaden Walker - however the pace, line and length of the Delta bowling attack proved too much for Team KPMG who could only reach 33 in their 10 overs. Photo: BVICA

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Delta Petroleum will be playing RTW in the final of the British Virgin Islands Cricket Association’s Corporate Cricket League after both secured semi final victories on Thursday November 19, 2015.

The first semi-final saw tournament pre-favorites Delta Petroleum come up against a committed and disciplined KPMG team.

Having won the toss, Delta made a nervous start as they lost Vaden Walker for 0, Jagnarine ‘Sugar’ Persaud for 3, Bashir Hidar for 2 and Christianand Dhanpaul for 5 before opener Mikhail ‘Mouse’ Mohamed marshaled the rest of the innings, top scoring with 13 and leading his side to a well below par total of 69.

In reply, KPMG sent in Lovat Carnelly and Tim Parson, but almost immediately the target seemed out of reach as Delta built the pressure with some controlled bowling. A desperate single from KPMG in the second over saw Tim Parsons depart run out. Jacques Roux, the next batsman out, started confidently with a drive to mid off but the runs quickly dried up as Delta maintained the pressure resulting on Jacques being run out as well.

Johannes Naude batted well to give opener Carnelley some support with a huge hit over the bowlers head to get off the mark. The innings showed some promise as Lovat Carnelley himself launched a stunning lofted drive for 4 off Vaden Walker - however the pace, line and length of the Delta bowling attack proved too much for Team KPMG who could only reach 33 in their 10 overs.

RTW eliminate Nagico/Terminix

The second semi-final saw RTW win the toss and elect to bat. Nagico/Terminix started well and with Shaniqua Fahie, bowling with accuracy. However, the RTW openers Kishore Prasad and Colin Gravesend managed to run aggressively to take 10 runs from the first over.

Nagico/Terminix captain Kevin Walker brought himself on to bowl in the second over and immediately removed Colin Gravesend much to the delight of all the Nagico/Terminix fans. Joel Williams though immediately swung the initiative back in RTW’s favour, blasting the remainder of Kevin's over for 14 runs. Key bowler Hasan Mohamed temporarily stemmed the flow of runs with a typically controlled burst of bowling giving away only 7 runs.

The respite was only temporary as Joel Williams and Kishore Prasad launched some fireworks at the Old Recreation Ground, blasting the next two overs for 41 runs. Fahie was again brought into the attack and bowled the most conservative over of the match giving away only 7. The RTW partnership picked up momentum shortly afterwards with a combination of big hits and very smart aggressive running.

Williams powered his way to the third 50 of the tournament with 5 sixes and 3 fours and retired. Ashok Kumar came on with only a few ballls left and guided RTW’s total to 122 - just as the heavens opened for the first of many rain delays that hampered the Nagico/Terminix reply.

Captain Kevin Walker and Simon Cross led the reply for Nagico/Terminix while RTW reached for one of their most consistent performers in the tournament, Jacintha Weekes to open the bowling attack and she captured the scalp of Simon Cross in the first over. Cross was clean bowled without troubling the scorers.

Hasan Mohamed played across a rising delivery and edged to Craig Grant behind the stumps who took a fabulous reaction catch and then RTW delivered a hammer blow two balls later when Walker went in exactly the same fashion and his replacement Jon Barnard was also bowled without troubling the scorers.

It was left to Vance Lewis and Shan Mohamed to salvage something out of the situation and they restored some calm to the innings, playing sensible shots and taking singles where available. Once Lewis fell,  Alvin Ramnarine showed remarkable determination to not give away his wicket, but once Mohammed and Fahie departed in quick succession the chase proved too high and the innings closed on 59.
