PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- Little princesses and fairies in tutus and pointe shoes pranced, glided, spun and performed arabesques, among other dance moves, much to the delight of a ‘full house’ at Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in Paraquita Bay, Tortola, where local dance group Nouveau Royale presented a 22-item dance treat on July 6, 2019.

Nouveau Royale is a dance group founded by twin sisters Lakiesha R. Claxton and Natisha T. Claxton, who Virgin Islands News Online have both featured as Young Professionals in the past, and presented an opportunity for the dancers of the group to showcase their talent to parents, other relatives and friends.

The dance recital was held under the theme: ‘Our Dance Dictionary: A Royal Festival of Nations’, and saw most of the items taking a modern ballet style of dance.

Highlights

Some 40 dancers performed on the evening and the items included guest performances by the BVI Dance School, Diva Sensation and Tune House and also featured mother-daughter and father-daughter dances.

The dances were to music both classical and contemporary, as well as of the reggae, pop and soca genre.

One of the highlights of the evening was a dance under the theme ‘Four Seasons With a twist’, performed by the Junior and Elite dance groups as well as the BVI Dance School. The dance featured a kaleidoscope of colours and a varied pace and mood to symbolise the different seasons.

One of the dances, ‘Bird Set Free’ was inspired by the movie, ‘Birdbox’, while another was titled ‘Irma’ which sought to depict the strength and resolve of the Virgin Islands following the devastation of Hurricane Irma.

Gratitude

The camera shy Directors/Founders/ Choreographers of Nouveau Royale, Lakiesha and Natisha, were commended for their work with the young dancers of the group and encouraged to continue their good work. Some parents also pooled resources to present the ‘twins’ with a gift basket as a token of appreciation.

Lakiesha noted that working with the dancers demands a lot of work and time but they are passionate about what they do and persevered.

She said it took a tremendous amount of work to get the show pulled off successfully and was especially grateful to parents of the dancers from her group as well as the sponsors.

Sponsors included Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), Deputy Premier and Minister of Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), Junior Minister for Tourism Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL), Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development Hon Sharie B. deCastro (AL), Second District Representative Hon Melvin M. Turnbull, Sixth District Representative Hon Alvera Maduro-Caines, Nagico Insurances, PSPot Meals on Wheels, Caribbean cellars, AWS trucking, Party World BVI, Beco’s Housekeeping Services, Save the Seed Energy Centre and Panchie’s Food Van.

The hosts of the show were former Mrs BVI Angelle A. Cameron and Kareem-Nelson Hull, who did a fine job of keeping the audience entertained between items.
