ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Sixth District Representative in the Virgin Islands (VI), House of Assembly (HoA), Hon Alvera Maduro-Caines has called on persons owning boats and other equipment in the district to clean up the zone since it continues to look like a ‘dumping area.’

Making the call at the September 2, 2019 continuation of the Sixth Sitting of the First Session of the Fourth House of Assembly in the Virgin Islands, Hon Maduro-Caines charged that unless action is taken, a request will be made to have the equipment and trailers towed.

Dumping Ground

“We in District 6 [Baugher's Bay and East-Central Tortola] have been plagued by the parking of equipment and boat trailers and boats all over the district,” she said noting that trailers are often parked for days in the most inconsiderate manner.

“It’s time that they stop making the 6th District look like a dumping area, so to speak,” she told the House.

Further, sharing her concerns that the situation affects the collection of garbage in the area, the D6 representative noted that one trailer was taking up half the road in the area for a period of four days therefore affecting traffic and the garbage collection process.

“Have some kind of courtesy when you park your trailer,” Maduro-Caines charged the offenders.

She implored owners to park in a way that won’t affect traffic, nor the work of the garbage trucks in the district.

6th is the biggest dump on Tortola. Full of people who don't care and dump their boats all over the place, block the roads, hang around on scooters, litter.

Yes I agree and also up the hill by a certain restaurant/bar where they had not one, but TWO boats parked up on both sides of the road....when you're trying to go up belle vue and drive up that road...its a complete pain in the butt

Agreed, and in this same area there are always vehicles parked in the road, actually in the road! I never see tickets on their windshields, what about enforcement? The police are often there after hours directing traffic for this Bar yet you can't find them at 8 am to help clear the traffic while you try to get to work. Such a shame.

She is right , except for one thing. ALL of Tortola has become a dump. If this the best we can do what we think the tourists must thin?. This used to be a beautiful island and now we make it an embarrassment.

This is the melee female politician who gets her nose rubbed into gossip and street melee on fb. She should be focusing on how to enhance and change her community physically, elate the minds of them and empowering them. But instead like some street gurl getting into into gossip and other peoples businesses!

hey as d6 representative, can you help us boat owners find a secure lot or even clear an abandon area of land? so when me and my friends family and neighbors do go sailing we no our expensive trailers are safe and not watch as trash long side the road

Maybe as a boat owner yall should be responsible enough to have a secure spot to put your equipment instead of expecting Government to do everything for you. Like i don't understand yall, did the government buy your boats and hand it to you? If you want to have a boat be responsible enough to have space for it instead of leaving it all over inconveniencing people then coming with some stupid comment like that.

@boat owner - trying to understand the post. You buy a boat and now want government to clear a piece of land for you to park your boat (confused) - you should have known where you would park your boat before you bought it. Too many boat owners want to park these BIG BOATS along the road. Stupidness

this has got to be a prank. when does your property become the Government problem? why is it the Government problem to find a place for your property? it seems that the problem is that you have your priorities all wrong. how about you secure a piece of land that can hold the boat that you so dearly desire. how about paying for it to be docked on one of the marinas. you should have considered all the other bills that comes with acquiring a piece of property like that. RIDICULOUS

I think he is asking for a secure area to leave his trailer while he is out on his boat... the trailers are there after they launch and removed as soon as they return and pull up their boats........so all he is asking for is a little space to leave the trailer so it won't be in or on the side of the road until he returns.........maybe they need to park in where the excavators are ....

If you going to buy a boat, would it not make sense for you to secure a parking area before the purchase? This kinda thinking is the reason why most boat owners on these islands don't have anywhere to park their boats, same way landowners build houses/apartments/etc without a damn parking lot for their vehicles and want to go park on main road ways turning them into one way roads.

If you can afford a boat you should be able to secure it. The government is not responsible for honoring such a request. Nonsense!!!

Now does that make any kind of sense?! You have a boat and you don't have any place to secure it other that on teh public road. So now the 6th District Rep is responsible for finding a piece of land and clearing it to suit you and other boat owners. Well hear hell today...
    • @boat owner (12/09/2019, 21:17) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
Really? More than half of the boat owners are young men that don’t work anywhere and have money to buy boat but don’t own a home to house they boat and trailers but instead have the trailers all over the government road. Such an eye sore for visitors and tourists to see. We have to do better. The country needs a serious clean u.

    • @Hook (10/09/2019, 08:29) Like (9) Dislike (1) Reply
I agree that Purcell/Free Bottom is also a problem and I feel the only solution to that is to remove those dumpsters from there altogether. Persons come from all over and just dump their garbage at that location. As for catching the attention of the representative, that will happen closer to election. She is too caught up with Baugher's Bay (Z6ne).

It didn't turn a dumping area since VIP took office, this happened under the NDP under her watch when she was building roads in February.

Why don’t this woman don’t just do something about it and stop crying like a child. She already said she had to beg her own party. Is it that no one respects her? or her constant immaturity Is clouding her worthlessness to the district?

As a Representative, you don't have to beg these trailer and boat owners to move their mess. You have the power to tell all of them, that as of whatever day you choose Miss Representative, that there will be tickets put on their offending vehicles everyday, until they move them themselves. Government does not owe them anything for relocating their private mess. SMH at anyone who thinks differently.

On the island of Singapore their Road Traffic Act requires all residents to own/lease a secure garage or parking spot BEFORE they can even purchase/import a vehicle or boat & trailer. Perhaps the HOA could implement a similar RTA in the BVI.
