ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Leading local long distance runner Katrina Crumpler placed 10th in the women’s division of the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Petit Bourg 10km road race in Guadeloupe on Saturday October 10, 2014.

The race attracted 201 participants from around the region and the world including Mexico, Rwanda and Kenya.

“It was the first time I’ve run the race and I didn’t know where the hills were and there were lots of them—nothing steep but continuous so it was hard to get into a rhythm—there were lots of turns too,” explained Crumpler who was timed in 46 minutes in 15 seconds in the hot conditions.

“I liked the course. It was very scenic and pretty. You don’t get bored with it and it was quite interesting. There was very good support as well.”

Crumpler who has run 43:30 before, said she wasn’t sure what time she’d do, said she was quite pleased with the performance.

“I would have liked to run a bit quicker but getting tenth was excellent,” she said. “I loved running with the other girls because you don’t get that in Tortola very often and it was so inspiring to see the women who are quicker than you. There were some amazing athletes there—men and women—so I loved seeing them.”

Crumpler will be gearing up to run in the November 22 Ogier/Deloite BVI Sunrise Half Marathon. Some 55 persons have already preregistered for the event including 14 from Puerto Rico.

Her husband Russell who accompanied her and decided to race finished 100th overall with a time of 48:48.
