ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The 2011 H. Lavity Stoutt Community-Highland Spring Race Series concluded on Saturday November 26, 2011at the Paraquita Bay Campus, with Khiry Creque and Meriel Steadman taking the overall honours in the male and female open categories.

Steadman, the overall female champion in her fourth consecutive race, again broke the women’s record. Creque is now one of the most decorated race series participants, following on from previous achievements as the top primary (2002) and secondary (2008) schools male athlete.

Although defending champion Raheem Taylor clocked his fastest time this year in taking first place in Saturday’s race, it was just too late to overcome Creque as overall winner, who dominated the earlier events in the series.

The Rotary Club of Tortola racked up its seventh first place, the Cedar School Parents and Staff had their third win in a row, and the St. George’s Secondary School team gained its maiden victory in their respective divisions.

The Althea Scatliffe Primary School team, which dominated the race series from 2002-2006, regained the title in this division, while Derek Pettigrew and Alisha Hayde were crowned the new one-mile male and female champions.

Other outstanding participants in the cross country division were Stefano Tasking and Tianna Pickering (Primary); Jude Kinkead and Sophie Nicholas (Secondary); Adam Cole and Esmie Stephens (Community Partners); and Marvin Flax and Gabriella Jacobus (Service Club).

In presenting the various trophies, Race Director Stephanie Russ Penn extended congratulations to the champions and all participants for what she described as “a job well done” throughout the race series.

Ms. Russ Penn especially thanked the management and staff of TICO BVI for their continued sponsorship of the races, adding that she is looking forward to their partnership for another exciting series in 2012.

The Race Director was also unreserved in praising the many volunteers from the community, as well as HLSCC staff, faculty and students, who assist with conducting each race on both Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

HLSCC President Dr. Karl Dawson was also on hand to assist with presenting trophies and congratulating the winners.
