ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Third District Representative, Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) remains sceptical about how the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is transmitted and has called for the Government to fully re-open the economy.

'There's a reason for having the lockdown for 14-days, and if that reason is valid then we already have the 14-days lockdown plus the seven, plus another seven," he said at an Opposition held press conference on May 19, 2020, while calling for curfews to end and the economy to reboot.

Freight can bring COVID-19 yet allowed

Addressing media questioning regarding an initial decision by the Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) administration to not let people into the Territory, Hon Fahie accused the administration of hiding behind facts.

"Did you ever stop and think about all the freight that's coming in? All these boxes that are coming in? They ask you to wipe surfaces, the reason why they ask you to wipe surfaces is because that thing, the virus, lives on surfaces.

"But all these boxes that are coming in daily, who wiping those?" Hon Fraser questioned.

Mr Fraser's argument on the basis of how the virus is transmitted is that although freight was allowed, people were not; however, boxes and surfaces can transmit the virus too he underscored.

Frogs came to VI through freights - Hon Fraser

"We have all these frogs around the place, where those frogs came from? They came from overseas and crates and all the rest of it," he said.

"I think that enough is enough, and stop using excuses to hide behind, let's get real and do what's needed".

The CDC in recommendations has said that COVID-19 is not caught easily from surfaces; however, notes that individuals remain 100% infectious whether they are asymptomatic or not.

My God - this is such a dog and pony show! All of them! Can none of our elected officials come up with a long term (not weekly) plan to open up our country sensibly and safely so businesses can plan and get employees back to work?

Oh my. The virus last 2 minutes on surfaces at 75 degrees. Man people losing their minds now. All type of cargo and packages rest for hours to days at the least in their containers naturally. Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water or encourage an opposition that is picking and clucking like a mother hen.

    hon fraser.
freight is stored in the shipping warehouse for approx 4 days before shipping. generally not touched by hands as they are packed on pallets and wrapped and mived by forlift.
they then get loaded into containers..again..not touched. they then take 7 days to get here and a further 3 days to unload at the port. ( again...all by forklift).) so there is a natural 14 day isolation period just by getting here. the air freight companies say that they spray and sanitize the boxes incoming. world health org say that cardboard boxes do not sustain the virus for more that a day or two.
stop trying to belittle the governments efforts. they are well aware of needing to get the things moving again. say something constructive...lets hear your view on the all mportant matter of hownon earth do we open the borders to tourists while protecting ourselves...i havent seen the honorable loyal opposition tackle this one...contribute to the problem solving..diont try and score political points at the peoples expense. thankyou. respectfully submitted

Issa Set up. Your remarks are unbelievable. A project to kill thousands of people? One life lost here was one too much. You better thank God that the Government implemented measures to further protect the BVI populus, otherwise you might have been included in the world wide statistics.
