Clash Of The Carolers Singing Competition To Be Held In December
The Clash of the Carolers will take place on Tuesday, December 11, at the Eileen L. Parsons Auditorium at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Social Worker, Melissa Potter told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the event is expected to revive that part of our culture to be reminiscent of the Christmas spirit. “Caroling in our territory has become a thing of the past and so many of us have lost the traditional spirit of Christmas ‘Virgin Islands style’ and so many young people are not aware of what the joy of Christmas used to really mean for us in the VI long ago,” Potter said.
Potter continued to emphasise the importance of community participation by saying, “That’s specifically why we are doing it by districts and not asking churches or other organizations to do specific renditions. We want friends, family and strangers living in the same district to come together and perform and represent your district and we are hoping that after the function that you, the groups from each district would form such comradery or unity among each other, that you would want to stay as a group and go out during the Christmas season and celebrate by caroling as we used to long ago.”
The competition will allow each electoral district to enter one group to perform a traditional Christmas song. The winner, first and second runner up will receive trophies and cash prizes on this evening. There will also be other acts performed such as drama, dance, poetry, and more.
Persons interested are advised to contact the Social Development Department at 468-3650 for additional information and to register as soon as possible.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide leadership that promotes health, social wellbeing, and a safe environment as positive resources for living and sustainable development of the Territory.
