ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - With 'Summer' just three months away, Caribbean Insurers Ltd and the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) announced this week that they are partnering to host an “Anything that Floats” race on July 5, 2015 at Cane Garden Bay, Tortola, with all proceeds going to support capital improvements at the YEP centre in Fat Hog’s Bay, Tortola.

Commenting on the event, Simone T. Monsanto, Director of Sales and Marketing at Caribbean Insurers Ltd (CIL) stated, “Giving back to the communities we serve is a core value for our company. We have been proud to support YEP’s fine work for the past several years and are excited about this race, which will offer another family-fun-filled event. We anticipate a wonderful and competitive day at the beach in Cane Garden Bay.”

According to Monsanto, members of the community are invited to form their own 4-6 person teams and racing vessels for the event, which promises not only fun, but an opportunity to bring the community together while providing crucial support for the YEP mission.

She said the upcoming race follows upon last year’s successful Soapbox Derby, which was also supported by CIL and which served to raise funding for the new Pebbles Hospital, while drawing rave reviews from event participants.

“As we celebrate the 10th year anniversary of YEP, we have never been more excited about our work or committed to our mission,” said Executive Director Stacey Mather.

“The young people of the BVI need and deserve the best possible facilities for their after school activities, which have been shown to improve their academic achievement and life prospects. Events like this race demonstrate the community’s backing for our mission, and also serve to bring us together for simple enjoyment,” he said.

Over the last 10 years YEP has provided free enrollment in out-of-school time activities for over 800 children primarily in the 7th and 8th districts.

The races will be the featured activity of the day, which will be rounded out with additional activities such as a sand castle building contests, swimming races, tug-o-war and other friendly contests. Racing teams can enter in the Group category that requires a team of four children (ages 8 to 12) and one adult or the Open category that may have 4-6 adult team members.

For additional information, rules and entry forms visit Caribbean Insurers Ltd. or contact Simone at 340-7879, simone.monsanto@caribbins.com or YEP at 495-2010, info@yepbvi.com.
