Chantel E. Malone takes Long Jump Gold in Spain

MADRID, Spain- On the heels of her historic Pan Am Games gold medal in the Women’s Long Jump, Virgin Islands athlete Chantel E. Malone competed in the Madrid Athletics Meeting in Spain on August 25, 2019 and added another gold medal to her tally.

Malone cut the sand at 6.56 metres to win the Women’s Long Jump final ahead of Chanice Porter of Jamaica, who was second with a leap of 6.51 metres.

Third was Monica Vicente of Spain (6.49 metres).

Malone later commented on her Facebook page, “It was ugly today but got the Win in Madrid, Spain tonight! More to come!”

Malone won Pan Am gold with a leap of 6.68 metres at the Estadio Nacional, in Lima, Peru on August 6, 2019.

In April of this year, Malone recorded a World Leading 6.90m at the 3rd Annual Torrin Lawrence Memorial in Athens, Georgia.

The feat set a new Virgin Islands and OECS Long Jump Record and helped her qualify for the Pan Am Games and the World Championships in Doha, Qatar set for September 28 to October 6, 2019.

      I totally agree with appreciating (all) their great achievements. There are so many “BVIslanders” locally and abroad who are doing an excellent job. Shout out to all of them especially young rising star Adaejah Hodge (received 3 gold medals at the Jr. Olympics events recently held in North Carolina. The best is yet to come BVI! #ChampionLegs
