Cham, Small Axe create frenzy @ Carrot Bay Festival Last Lap
As the curtains came down on this year’s Emancipation Festival in the Carrot Bay ‘Last Lap’ event, Cham displayed all of the performance qualities that truly make him one of the standout artistes in the dancehall arena and a veritable success in the crossover hip-hop market in the United States (US) as well.
The artiste, formerly known as Baby Cham, has been performing since his teenage years in the late 90’s and showed fans the depths of his catalogue with hits such as Joy Ride, Vitamin S, Ghetto Pledge, Bullet and Bow.
But it was Cham’s 2005 major hit song Ghetto Story and his collaboration done in the following year, This Is Why I’m Hot, with US hip-hop artist MIMS that further catapulted him to worldwide fame. He didn’t disappoint in belting out the two songs so many of the fans were clamouring for.
Cham, in a surprise move, also brought his wife Ophelia aka ‘O’ onstage to perform two hit songs, Wine Up and Tun Up which he also collaborated on last year. The artiste also spoke of the struggles that are often faced on the road to success and encouraged fans to keep on persevering in heading for their goals as he closed his set out with the Michael Bolton staple, When I'm Back On My Feet Again.
Earlier, a stellar performance came from St Kitts’ Small Axe band who had patrons in a frenzy rocking and jumping up to hits such as Rum, Dance The Masquerade and Shub Back on de Iron, among others. During the show, the Showtime Band also collected their trophy for winning this year's Road March Chamionship with their new single 'Sort Out'.
Carrot Bay’s very own B Breezy aka Bumpy also gave a creditable performance with songs such as They Know and Wrangler Music.
The show also featured performances from Stylee Band, 17 Plus and VI Showtime, which served as the closing act.
