CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI- Recognising that chronic non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart attack, and stroke, are affecting the lives of many men at a young age, not just in the British Virgin Islands but in the Caribbean region, ladies of the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church (CGBBC) have decided to do something about it.

The Women’s Ministry of CGBBC would be hosting a Men’s Health Seminar titled ‘Manup’ on Wednesday May 15, 2019 at 7:00pm at the church in Cane Garden Bay.

Men weighed in the balance & found ‘wanting’- Mrs Marion M. Turnbull

President of the Ladies Ministry of CGBBC Mrs Marion M. Turnbull said, “We are concerned about the prevalence of chronic diseases in our territory. Perhaps more alarming is the un-healthiness of our male population.”

The concern is that men are at a higher risk because generally, they do not visit their physicians regularly until it is too late.

“There is an obvious attack on the male gender that seems to render him ineffective as the priest (he’s spiritually detached), protector (too weak to fight), provider (weighed in the balances and found wanting) and pleaser (unable to ‘rise’ to the occasion),” Mrs Turnbull said in a press release.

She said the seminar would address these deficiencies that continue to lead to much unhappiness in families whether it be sexually unfulfilled wives, early widowers, or orphans.

Women must be ‘defiant of the trend’

“As women, we must be defiant of the trend and refuse to settle for what is becoming the norm. It’s been rightly said, ‘there go the male; there go the nation.”

The seminar will address the various aspects of men’s health including, but not limited to: Health and Sexuality, the Psychosomatic, and the spirit-man.

The panelists are Dr Kedrick D. Pickering, Dr Harland Vanterpool, and Dr Michael A. Turnbull.

The seminar is opened to all men and women and young persons over age 17.

It’s sad that men are not what they are to be. What God intended them to be which is leaders, caretakers, providers, fathers, counselors. Our men are not taking care of themselves at all. We have to be careful not to neglect our wives and our homes. Notwithstanding, it’s hard being a man and unless you step into a man’s shoe you will never know what it takes to be a man..not a male but a man. There is a stark difference. It’s takes a man to be those things in my second sentence. Most of all, it takes a man to be faithful and true to his wife and to be a great husband and a father.

Woman can't teach men how to be men if the men are listening to you women then that's the problem. You should focus on teaching the girls how to be ladies and let the men handle the men. Hustling backwards.
