ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee (VIF&FC), Mr Carnel D. Clyne has fired back at comments made by Reverend Melvin A. Turnbull, during the Thursday, July 4, 2019, edition of ZBVI’s ‘Umoja’ show over revelations that Gospel Fest continues to be missing from the official VIF&FC calendar of activities for Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival 2019.

Reverend Turnbull—speaking on a fight to have Gospel Fest included into VIF&FC line-up—had told Host Cromwell Smith aka 'Edju En Ka', that the Heritage committee was fighting for recognition for the Christian festival, “if some folks had it their way, we would be out. There will probably be no religious celebration,” he said.

Unbothered – Mr Clyne

Mr Clyne; speaking exclusively to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), has lashed back, telling this news website, “I ain't going back and forth with Pastor Mel lying @$$."

While Reverend Turnbull, the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Heritage Committee, did not single out the VIF&FC Chairman, Mr Clyne, as one who was fighting down his committee, Mr Clyne noted that “My heart [is] clean and pure,” and said he was unbothered by any comments made regarding the role of the VIF&FC in Mr Turnbull’s plight.

“We have centralised doing everything through one account… It’s not what he is accustom to so we meet a little resistance,” Mr Clyne told our newsroom.

Moving Forward

According to the Chairman, “We moving forward” regardless of everything and noted that Reverend Turnbull is “Now cooperating because there is nothing he can do to change it,” Mr Clyne charged.

When questioned on whether Gospel Fest 2019 was included in the VIF&FC line-up, the Chairman confirmed that it is; however, the full line-up is yet to be released.

“The line-up that we launched was just an entertainment line-up, we will launch a full line-up,” he said and promised to include more of the 2019 scheduled events.

Mr Turnbull had complained that while the territory has seen changes since new reforms, it is not coming as quickly and as much as he would like.

Can you imaging if this guy had won the 2nd district? He going on with a lot of cockiness and dictatorness like he own the festival or he getting paid. He don't listen and want to tell everybody they go to do what he say. Worse Chairman of festival ever!

He need to humble heself. Festival don't belong to you. It belongs to the people, the booth owners, the local entertainers, vendors etc. You should be in the background quiet. It isn't about you Carnel!
Yet another mistake Honourable Premier has made.

It was about time they harnessed that section of the festival celebrations. One church dominating for so many years is wrong.

Mr. Chairman, I have no issue with you, and I have no issue with Rev. Turnbull. I do not rely on benefits coming from you, nor from Rev. Turnbull. I have nothing but admiration for both. So with that said, as a man of God, I have to advise you to be very careful how you refer to a man of God, be it Rev Turnbull, or anybody (even if they may have his own shortcomings before the Lord). again, be very careful.

All of us are men and women of God. This title given to many wolves in sheep clothing. There’s been a few who act all mighty, full themselves as better than all else and in actuality doing worse than the atheist. We all pray and seek Gods blessings. If he is a liard then he should be called out as one. Those so called men of the cloth will use their position to destroy people no different from the ordinary people.

As a person in the lime light, who will be called on by the media to make several comments especially leading into the festivities, it may be wise to watch what is said to media, even if you think it, come on.. wisdom should say that is not an appropriate comment. Besides, I believe the media quoted you, to get exactly the feedback and reaction this post will create.

Cant agree with you more on this point because good journalism would dictate some type of decorum in reporting something that can be so volatile and disprespectful

Okay, my jaw dropped at this part. You don’t have to agree in what was said but how about being a little more mature and respectful in your response.

I really don't know what happened but if the pastor lied on him he has a right to say it. Why should he lie to cover the pastor if that's what really happened

How about we all make it a packed field for the Gospel Fest.

What is one of the many things God brought you out of that are not ashamed to make a joyful noise giving thanks.

Months of expenses and planning and outfits for:

    Poker Run - PACKED
    Lobster Fest - PACKED
    Destra - PACKED
    Horse Race - PACKED
    BUJU - PACKED

Gospel Fest is Free Entry. Forget the church flow. It looks foolish posting attire and not sharing the message received with others. Is that what church has come to...for social media likes?

Let's get it together man....Bring a friend, let them bring a friend, and fill the place with wholesome dancing, singing, and worshipping.

If you could fly to Miami carnival, St. Kitts Music Fest, Labour Day Weekend, etc. let's celebrate being completely emancipated from the prisons we still live in today within our minds.

The pastor did not lie. Cline just playing smart and trying to fool people. The gospel Fest happens before the official opening of the Emancipation Festival! So it is not a part of the Festival line up or calendar technically or officially. If they were to open the Village officially and then do the Gospel Fest THEN it would be promoted as an absolute part of the Festival.

So the pastor did not lie. Carnel is who bending the truth.

Carnel handled this PR wrong but gospel fest needs a new chairman or handed over to the Christian Council to organize. For too long it has been a one church thing. I wonder if he had say ‘Pastor Mel is not completely honest’. if it would be better accepted.
People are resisting change in VIFFC because they are no longer handed out money in a lump sum to do what they want, it’s a problem. From this story it’s all about calling the pastor a liar and many of us haven’t noticed the part about centralizing festival spending for accountability and transparency and the resistance from members.

The whole festival has gone political the village had to be adjusted to accommodate the stage Some old booth owners kicked out to so that Wilcox can have a booth Vendors kicked out so that work can be given to political cronies .The Minister has the last Day in every thing and the members of the festival has no experience

The reason why most people “Christians” do not support Gospel Fest is because, the activities/behavior is frequently perceived as a precursor to bless/sanction the “things/actions of the world” that will shortly be followed. If we, as Christians really want to stand up and he a witness for Christ, it will be helpful to hold this activity, perhaps quarterly, as a festival of our witness to God...not talking about a Crusade. I’ve often wondered what is the real purpose of this aspect of the festivities. I likewise wonder, how is it that year after year one Pastor is given this lump-sum of money to do, for the better part, as he wishes. Where is the accountability? How much of the leftover monies goes back to the treasury? With all the Historians in the BVI and Caribbean region, why mega thousands are being spent to bring, what appears to be, “special interest” American Speakers; some of who are not even aware of their own ancestry plight..., to tell us about ours.

Mr. Cline’s choice of words are, no doubt, inappropriate, but the accountability factor is right on Target. The decision to take the money out of this “all mighty man’s hands to spend at will..., is the right decision for all the VI people. Keep in mind, another few votes, if a few more of Mitch’s family and friends had missed the plane, Mr. Cline would have likely had Hon. before his name at this time. You must agree, after he receiving almost half of the District’s votes, he has a lot to be proud of...and will continue to mature with time. Besides, not many persons know the related “inside family politics”.
Fellow Christians, let’s spend more time “pulling up”, rather than “kicking down”, those whom we deem “unsuitable”.
The Lord truly wishes to Bless our people; much more than we can imagine. Pastor Turnbull, as an acknowledged spiritual leader in our community, it’s important to humble yourself before the Lord. It’s really not always all about YOU and YOURS.. There is an crucial practicality, referred to as: “walking the talk.”
