ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee (BVIOC) held its election on December 7, 2016 at the BVIOC Headquarters in Road Reef Plaza, with just two of six positions contested.

The two positions contested, Secretary General and Athletes’ Representative, saw Nominees, Dag Samuels and Dean ‘The Sportsman’ Greenaway contesting for the position of Secretary General against incumbent, Lloyd K. Black and Ralston Henry taking on Sabinah Clement, for the role of Athletes Representative.

However, neither were successful against the post holders and the Executive Board will remain the same for the next quadrennial as the previous.

President – Mr Ephraim Penn

1st Vice President – Mr. Neville A. Smith

2nd Vice President – Mr. Roy E. Barry

Secretary General – Mr. Lloyd K. Black

Treasurer – Mr Mark Chapman

Athletes’ Representative – Ms Sabinah Clement

In his remarks, BVIOC President Mr Ephraim Penn highlighted some main objectives

  • support elite athletes to achieve Podium finishes
  • to increase the number of sports participating in major games
  • to promote the Olympic Values of Respect, Excellence and Friendship, and
  • to promote drug free sport through the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) programme.

Mr Penn expressed thanks to the board members who worked tirelessly with him since 2008 namely Mr Mark Chapman, Mr Neville A. Smith and Mr Roy E. Barry.

“I am proud to have been part of a team that has created a solid foundation that has supported the development of competitive sports in the territory and its continued growth with credible performances from our athletes regionally and internationally,” said Mr Penn.

“We have come a long way but we still have further to go. I acknowledge the trust that has been placed in me as president and in the other elected officers and members of the Executive Committee to commit to our roles and to deliver on expectations of the BVIOC as a member of the IOC.  We stand ready to continue with our efforts to achieve the goals of the next quadrennial.”

Why they need two Vice Presidents? Barry go sit down, you want to be in everything on every board, go relax... Neville got this one.

Does Barry ask you for anything, I think not, you should mind your own business and live your own life and stop worrying about others, thank you!

I agree with you, Barry needs to concentrate on NHI which is in a mess.
