BVIEC Linesmen take historic win @ CARILEC’s Lineworkers Rodeo in Antigua

ST GEORGE, Antigua- The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) made history as the first utility to capture a consecutive 1st Place in the Experienced Team Category at the CARILEC’s Lineworkers Rodeo held at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Sunday April 21, 2024.

BVIEC also won the Experienced Team Category in 2023.

The BVIEC Team was led by Mr Donaldson Hamlet- Transmission and Distribution Foreman, Junior Linesmen- Shaquil Samuel, Damien Richardson, Edward Pollock and Assistant Linesman Lenox Matthew Jr.

Taking Second Place in the Experienced Team Category was Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) while 3rd Place was taken by Nevis Electricity Company (NEVLEC).

Other wins by BVIEC

The BVIEC Team also won the 3 Phase Pin and Insulator Changeout and 3 Phase Earth Installation categories.

The CARILEC’s Lineworkers Rodeo is a popular and favorite event amongst utility lineworkers, as they are provided with a forum to improve their technical skills, while simultaneously engaging in competition in the spirit of comradery and collaboration.

The CARILEC’s Lineworkers Rodeo events included HV Cut-out Installation, HV Fuse link Changeout, Phase Pin and Insulator Changeout, Phase Deadend Changeout, Phase Earth Installation and Hurtman Rescue.

BVIEC stated on its Facebook page on April 25, 2024, that the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of BVI Electricity Corporation are “euphoric of our Linesmen who were exceptional and made history as they displayed their skills in this team building competition.”
