ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - After almost five years, the BVI Basketball Federation (BVIBF) will be voting for its 2019-2023 new executive body next Tuesday, June 25, 2019, in the Virgin Islands (VI).

With some 10 posts up for grabs in the body that governs all basketball leagues and players in the Territory, Managers and Coaches who had teams in the Road Town league within the last five years are entitled to one vote each per position and will represent their basketball teams.

They will be voting for the posts of President, Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, and Assistant, Public Relations Officer and one player representative each for Junior and Senior players.

The BVIBF is also recognised by and is a part of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with responsibility for the Virgin Islands (VI) National Basketball team.

Race is hot!

With some three tickets running to replace Guy L. Malone and his 2014-2019 executive committee, the race is expected to be hot. Mr Malone has been at the helm of the BVIBF for almost five years and before that, served the Federation for over 10 plus years.

Running for President in the Tuesday polls are basketball veteran player, organiser and Physical Education (PE) Teacher, Kennedy H. Bass.  His Vice Presidential (VP) candidate is Basketball Superstar Jason A. Edwin and they will come up against Former Basketball Player and Businessman, Derrick R. Varlack, whose VP candidate is Businessman and Coach, Cromwell Smith aka ‘Edju En Ka.’

The final person in the race for President of the BVIBF executive body is long-time coach and PE Teacher Derwin Scatliffe, with VP candidate, referee Norvel A. Young.

All have tickets for election

Thus far, each of the three men have presented other candidates to fill the 10 positions available.

The election will be held at the Youth Affairs and Sports Conference Room on the second Floor of Ward’s Building at 5:30 pm, in Road Town the capital city.

Nominations for persons to fill any of the positions will be closed on Sunday, June 23, 2019, and nominations should be emailed to: bvibasketball14@gmail.com according to a BVIBF press release.
