ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – When organisers of the BVI Exquisite Boat Show made the decision to have the event staged in a more central and easily accessible location, they were anticipating a much better turn out of patrons. But according to one of the Coordinators, Ms Meslyn M. Allan, this was not so.

“We put a lot of thought into it and I think it came out how we wanted it to [but] the only thing is that we expected a stronger attendance from the local community. All in all I think it was a very good event,” said Allan.

The event was held at the Village Cay Marina on Wickham’s Cay 1 on Saturday May 23, 2015 and saw a much larger number of local boaters coming out in support. According to Ms Allan, that was one of their big agenda. “We had boats from Puerto Rico but we had a really good turn out by our local boaters and the support we got from the senior folks in the community was very good,” she added.

Measuring the attendance to that of 2014 in terms of persons attending the show, Ms Allen says it may have been on par.

The boat show featured boats on show, boats on sale and boats in competition in a number of areas. Among those were various sizes of boats, cleanest inboard engine, loudest sound system, best interior 29ft and under, best overall boat just to name a few.

At the end of the judging day Malkin Roberts’ boat ‘Cream 32’ was judged the best overall boat.

The day catered for a range of other entertainment activities which included fashion display of pieces from a number of local boutiques; Menen I designs, Swag Crew, Something for Her, P3, 5 Girls Ltd and Ms Determined.

Planning ahead

In anticipation of a much better show for the third time around, Ms Allan said they are sparing no time getting on with the planning for 2016.

The EBS has potential for the marine market. Probably what needs to be done is inviting the marine businesses to participate and pay the EBS Organizers for their advertising. It suppose 2 be a good venture if u love the marine industry, it show also be like a marine expo selling such as parts for boats, etc. I think its a good event. I hope it continues Kudos to Ms. Allen and crew. Keep it on for nx year.

Wha2say I agree with you. If he keeps going at slowly but surely it will gow. The poker run didnt start out as a sucess but look at it now. Al's Marine was out there doing the same thing you spoke about hopefully the other marine companies will follow suit. Yes continue to push the event these are only the begining stages before you know it, it will grow beyond your imagination.

Some people are in church while the event is going on. If you want more local support, have the event when the people are available.

Why attendance low? It is easy,no one but drug runners and runner wannabee's are interested. BVI was built around sailing and when Drug boats take over will be a sad day. Noise, wakes and irresponsible captains. They will eventually destroy the sailing industry. Also look at the parking spaces all over they take up except for the infrequent drug runs. Even the druggers have trouble coming up with $300.00 for gas for an afternoon ride harassing sail boats.

The show is a good thing and it will continue to grow. I think that they need to engage more boat owners and more state holders as it relates to meetings, getting them involve will go along way not just putting on an event and expect ppl to show up.
