PHILIPSBURG, St Maarten, WI- In their toughest battle to date, BVI Bayside Blazers lost to Dominican Republic at the 6th annual ‘Battle of the Fittest’ Basketball Tournament in Philipsburg, St Maarten on July 15, 2019.

The BVI, being officially represented by Bayside Blazers in St Maarten, surrendered 81-98 to their Dominican Republic opponents at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium.

Leading the fight for Bayside Blazers, in a vain effort, were Killven M. Samuel (21 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds), Deon J. Edwin (21 points, 5 rebounds) and Adrian D. Joseph (16 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds).

Melvin H. Haynes, who had top scored for the BVI Bayside Blazers with 22 points in their convincing win over Aruba on July 14, 2019, had an off night against the Dominican Republic as he was hardly a factor and missed many free throws.

The Dominican Republic were spearheaded to victory by W. Remoro, who had a game high 23 points, along with 9 rebounds and 2 assists, and L. Reyneso, who netted 16 points.

The result last night was the first defeat for BVI Bayside Blazers, who crushed Aruba 101-46 in their opening encounter on July 14, 2019.

The BVI boys will be looking to make amends to keep their hopes of a successful title defense alive when they come up against St. Eustatius (Statia) from 6:00pm today, July 16, 2019.
