Businesses, citizens should take charge of COVID-19 pandemic - Skelton-Cline

-says too much dependency on Gov't to get things done
Social Commentator and ZBVI Radio moderator, Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline has called on the Business community as well as citizens of the Virgin Islands (VI) to start taking charge of the COVID-19 pandemic, instead of depending on the government for everything. Photo: Facebook/File
According to Skelton-Cline, this switch will allow the business community to be the real engine of the pandemic and take charge of running the economy of the country, to help determine policies and laws moving forward. Photo: VINO/File

BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI - Social commentator and ZBVI Radio moderator, Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline has called on the Business community as well as citizens of the Virgin Islands (VI) to start taking charge of the COVID-19 pandemic, instead of depending on the government for everything.

"We have got to solve this pandemic, we... if we keep looking just to one sector if we keep looking just to government... it is the government that has been the engine, but I think this is a good time to begin to switch to the business community," he said on the Thursday, September 3, 2020, edition of the 'Honestly Speaking' show.

Business community must take charge - Skelton-Cline

According to Skelton-Cline, this switch will allow the business community to be the real engine of the pandemic and take charge of running the economy of the country, to help determine policies and laws moving forward.

"We have looked to the Government and we have looked to politicians for everything and in one degree, we have been idolatrous because we have made the politicians lords," he said.

According to the man of the cloth, this behaviour has allowed the populace to become completely dependent on the government for everything, which should not be the case he said.

"A good time to change these Virgin Islands in right now, all of us have a role to play and no matter the percentage of your role, it is equally important but play it, we must."

Citizens must carry some of the burden - Skelton-Cline

He said the territory cannot afford to return to the dysfunctions of the past, rather, should use the COVID-19 crisis and pandemic as a catalyst for change.

"This is the time to change it... we must become to change agents, stop looking to the government," he said.

Skelton-Cline noted that while both the VI Government and the United Kingdom (UK) ought to be held accountable for decisions they make, the people also have a responsibility to carry the load of the pandemic until the burden gets lighter.

Ok so what you are saying is businesses should ignore government restrictions and get all of our employees back to work. Ignore the border closure laws and start importing tourists. When we have a covid outbreak that the hospital cant handle we can just set up more private clinics to provide treatment and since it will be tourists who are sick they wont qualify for NHI so all the new private clinics will make a fortune $$. This fortune can be used to spur investment and growth and the engine of the BVI economy will shift into high gear. We can build the casinos and open the medical weed farms and all live happily ever after. Finally Pastor Cline you have said something intelligent! Lets get to work people.

The Overspend is worried that if the Govt runs out of money, then his $16,666.67 per month consultancy might come to an end.

If your mask protects you from me what are you worrying about or you know deep down inside that these mask don’t work ? And why does the warning on the box of mask say these does not protect you from Covid 19 ? Did something change over night or did the politics change ? Why when we had swine flu the mainstream media and doctors were saying “DO NOT WEAR MASK, IT’LL ONLY MAKE YOU SICK.” Did something change or did the politics change ? Can someone show me a mask that says it works against viruses ?

Masks minimize the risk of germs getting in your nose and mouth.

Why be concerned that the other person isn’t wearing...just like a condom it’s not 100% effective and some women use birth control as well.

So why they told us not to wear a mask during the swine flu ?
    • jokes (06/09/2020, 07:39) Like (2) Dislike (2) Reply
      Wrong!
Your mask protects everyone else from you!
When you cough, sneeze or speak you release droplets (spit) which is caught in your mask, so not spreading.
You risk other’s health when not wearing a mask in public.
So I wear a mask to protect you, you wear one to protect me, got it?

Only medical grade (N95 or better) masks protect the wearer.

In a situation as this where the country is in lock down and our movement is restricted the government is responsible it is as if we are in a state of emergency. This is why they created the emergency fund for such a time as this . We are not able to function as we use too so hence our dependence on the government. But unfortunately this is the time when they use this pandemic as a political tool .

Business owners mist insist that anyone who wants to enter their establishments must wear a mask and sanitize their hands before entering. I don't care if they are your family or friends, we must all work on this together. Don't listen to the excuses that they left their mask in the car, make them go back and get it or sell them one if you have any, period! All food establishments, for now should be take out only, no mingling to talk, just keep distancing, they can talk when they get away from your stores. The business owners must insist on this for everything to work as smoothly as possible, so we can stay as healthy as possible. I TOO AM READY!!!!

Citizens can’t even be trusted to social distance and wear masks properly. Even after the premier’s warning there are still people not wearing their masks in public. All well and good implementing fines for not complying but where is the enforcement?! Also what are businesses expected to do whilst on lockdown? If we need them to help then we need the government to allow them it operate

Why these Govt without a proper plan always using the few failing countries as their reason to stay lock down...Why can't they look at the many success stories, learn how they do it and use them as reasons to open..?? We can't continue looking for the easy way out.... All of us learn from young from parents, from teachers , that there is "No success without sacrifice'". We have to quit looking for a perfect system because there is none....We just have to focus on moving forward.... That's Why I love St Lucia and the wisdom and courage of their leaders to quickly recognized, that this thing will not going Away And put plans in place to co-exist,. It's the first Caribbean country to open and doing very well, I know lots of these leaders are only waiting for something to go wrong to criticize,. Look how much those weak leaders criticize Jamaica and Antigua because they open their borders and had a few cases, but they continue to lead and ignore the noise,.and ignore the pressure from WHO, They fix, adjust and solve the issues, ...U cannot judge the effectiveness of a plan.until it get tested....WHO was put together under the disguise of good with an agenda to reduce the black population,. Not one Black person of their executive board. Let's be careful who we take instructions from...

We the people see COVID for what it truly is: a mild flu like virus created in a lab in communist China to generate worldwide hysteria which is used by elite globalists like Bill Gates and George Soros to mandate vaccines that will alter our DNA and sterilise us to lower birth rates. Its time for us to wake up, live our lives, love our neighbour, and not fall for the fear mongering being used to control us.
