Brits caught transporting £200K cocaine to UK! Country corrupt?

-two jailed as Sept 30, 2020 case surfaces; Brits nabbed after jet skis ran out of gas en route to UK
Now according to a report from the BBC, two British men Steven Brogan, 36, and Anthony Reilly, 34, both of Skelmersdale, Lancashire, will now face jail time after they had to be rescued because they ran out of fuel on a drugs run from the Netherlands to the UK in September 2020. LONDON, UK – More drug busts continue to surface in the United Kingdom (UK), yet the country has not been labelled as corrupt by the UK Press and other high-profile government officials over the drug busts.

This comes as ex-governor of the Virgin Islands (VI) Augustus J. U. Jaspert late last year, labelled the Virgin Islands (VI) as corrupt following the discovery of some $250m worth of cocaine on Tortola in early November 2020.

The label came ahead of an announcement of a Commission on Inquiry into the VI Government based on allegations of corruption; however, Mr Jaspert had never publicly referred to his home country as corrupt, given its frequent high-profile drug busts.

What constitutes corruption?

According to a report from the BBC, two British men Steven Brogan, 36, and Anthony Reilly, 34, both of Skelmersdale, Lancashire, will now face jail time after they had to be rescued because they ran out of fuel on a drugs run from the Netherlands to the UK in September 2020.

The men attempted to transport $278,000 worth of cocaine from the Netherlands to the United Kingdom on jet skis, however, they ran out of fuel during their return journey and had to be saved by the British coast guard.

Ahead of the sentence, both men admitted to importing Class A drugs at Ipswich Crown Court. The Judge, Recorder Richard Christie QC, jailed Brogan for seven years and six months and Reilly; who admitted to the offence before his co-defendant, for seven years.

Cocaine flowing into the UK

Meanwhile, the UK’s love affair with cocaine was again placed in the limelight on Valentine's day February 14, 2021, when a £184 million drug haul was busted in banana imports from Colombia. In another major November 2020 bust, some 1,060 kilograms of cocaine, worth £100 million was found hidden in banana related shipments in Essex.

Following the unfounded corruption label by ex-Governor Jaspert on the VI, Virgin Islanders, including Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), had called the then Governor’s statement irresponsible and asked for a retraction, which he ignored.

Local political pundits and other talk-show hosts have alleged that the UK through Ex-Governor Jaspert had embarked on an agenda to damage the reputation of the VI, thus paving the way for the Crown to launch a CoI as a starting point to intervening in the local affairs of the territory.

UK targeting pro-independent OT Leaders - Michael E. Misick

Former Premier of British OT, Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), Michael E. Misick in a February 15, 2021 interview said the CoI into the VI government is no surprise.

He said the British government has shown a pattern of going after Black OT leaders like Premier Fahie who stand up to the UK, are pro-independence and push the mantra of wanting a self-determined future for their people.

Its only corruption if they find that police or public officials were involved. I didn't read in your article that this is the case. Otherwise its just common criminality.

The police is headed by a UK national and the police is under the Governor’s portfolio that a why they are called the Royal Virgin Island Police Force. They pledge allegiance to serve the Queen not the BVI.

Type that in ALLLLLLL CAPS because some people would run with the corruption in UK story blinded by their own prejudices that they can’t see it’s the average criminals not corrupt officials

If you have information about Gus and Mathews, you can take it to the Commission of Inquiry. Same rules apply.

We need to worry more about how to fix our problems and less about whether or not someone else is getting caught in another country. The man was the Governor of the BVI, not Governor of the U.K. Bottomline: there is no shame in admitting we have a problem and putting our heads together to fix. Too much effort is being wasted trying to prove otherwise!!!!

No, the UK should worry less about another man’s country and more about their own problems.

The UK has 2,200 people for every person in the BVI, the UK is 1,580 times the size of the BVI, the 2 are not comparable. Nevertheless, there was more cocaine seized in the BVI last year than in the whole UK, per capita there was over 2,500 times the amount of cocaine seized in the BVI compared to the UK.

Yet, every time we turn around the UK’s illegal Drug activities are being exposed, we can only imagine the quantity of drugs that are not being detected to supply such a large population of people.

Playing petty Politics is certainly not the way to solve real problems. There is corruption everywhere, and this is not to say that just because a few drug busts are made that that is the basis of measuring a country's level of corruption.
If we don't know by now that the COI was not due to drug busts then we'll be missing an opportunity to ventilate and solve real problems otherwise.
No matter what is said, there will always be those who simply believe on either sides of the divide. Let due course and judgement prevail.

no one is saying the uk doesn’t have issues and that those need fixing. But that doesn’t change the fact that bvi has material issues that need fixing.

None of us was aware that the UK had drugs too! How they could now have a problem with our drugs?
Only answer is that they white and because BVI is black they send white Gus and white COP to stop us doing just what they do.
So wrong. Thanks to you we see through their wickedness plan.
We should send our own black governor and black cop to UK.
If they stop us it PROOVE they racists.
Also, I believe they trying to stop our corruption too! And all just because BVI is black they doesn’t want us corrupting as good as them.
        Set of racialist!

They have a HUGE appetite for drugs. You won't find the police or the law makers selling it to them. customs certainly doesn't import it for them and the politicians don't profit from it not like here you lucky people you! but yes, the people of the UK do like to party. You try living under the laws of rich white people for a couple thousand years and you might party just as hard.

Yes the UK has its few corruption but that doesn't mean they are not looking into it. We definitely have ours in the BVI but who is really looking into that before the COI? That's why now alot of them are shaking scared for what they will find on them.
