ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Chief Fire Officer of the VI Fire Department Mr. Zebulon A. McLean and his officers had their hands full last evening May 17, 2014 as they were faced with two fires at each of the extreme ends of Tortola.

Mr McLean has confirmed with this news site that there were indeed two fires; one at West End and the other at East End.

While he was unable to provide much further details, Mr McLean that they were alerted to a fire which set two yachts alight. The damage was extensive and investigations are ongoing. He did not have details of the owner of the two vessels at hand at the time.

According to Mr McLean while they were attending to the fire at West End they were summoned to another at East End/Long Look. This time it was an apartment that was engulfed. While the firefighters had to rush from one extreme, the presence of and quick response of the Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mr William Penn who had rushed to the scene in advance paid dividends.

The CFO said that Mr Penn and a few others were able to commence the process of extinguishing the fire that had engulfed one of the bedrooms in an apartment of Samuel Williams Apartments at Vanterpool Estate.

This news site was told that a number of items were salvaged from the burning bedroom. It could not have been confirmed if anyone was at home at the time of the fire. “Though they hadn’t the fire truck there Mr Penn and team must be complimented for doing a very good job. What they did aided the prevention of a fire that could have caused much more damage and losses,” said Mr McLean.

deeds-an act or gesture, especially as illustrative of intentions.

When you want to chastise someone on writing perfect English, please make sure you can do the same thing first before blasting anyone. In the first line of your sentence, it should be "I understand what YOU'RE saying", conjunction for you are, (NOT your). And PLEASE, PLEASE learn to use full stops and capitalization. I was actually out of breath by the time I finished your post.

@Listen: Trolling -The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue.

Maybe you should learn to recognize a troll when you see one and just chill out

If you have an issue with the way people writes on these blogs just maybe you should not be on them reading no blogs at all. People have the right to write whatever they want so if you don't like what they wrote just keep it moving, it aint that serious.

Ummm, why are you allowing this person to get on your nerves this way? Cant you see that this is their strategy, to irritate people via this medium. They are being corrected everytime they comment on a story, yet they continue to do it....which means they're laughing at you becoming irritated, and you are upset. I see them as little demonic imps just pricking people into frustration. It used to bother me once upon a time also, but I recognise their strategy. So, when I begin to read comments and I come upon "deeds people", I jump over it and keep moving on to the next comment. Instead of giving them attention, ignore them. Eventually, they will recognise that nobody is taking them on any more......and they'll stop.

Some people are fine substituting their words, like "these with deeds" "you with u" "two/to with 2" and so forth. The only thing I see wrong with the comment is the word "Deeds" and the lack of proper punctuation marks. If you read the rest of the persons comment there is nothing wrong with it grammatically. So give the person a break, they probably intentionally wrote "Deeds".

I personally try not to shortcut my words for anything whether text, personal emails etc. as it was becoming a nuisance whenever I have to be professional (especially when writing to a client). I see nothing wrong with going the shortcut route if you are capable of transitioning from one to the other when appropriate.

I mean, some people really need help but some people just write how they please. Relax a little people.

Fire stations with at least one truck should be in east and west end. Waiting for a truck to come from town is pure nonsense and from even further away as in this case is ludacris. De government(s) too busy spending money on nonsense than on stuff that really matters.

i was baffled as well. I thought there was a fire station Capoons Bay and 2 on the east side (Long Look area and Beef Island). What I would like to know if the one at the airport is allowed to leave the compound in situations like that one?
  • beef island (18/05/2014, 22:38) Like (8) Dislike (2) Reply
wouldn't it makes sense if there is any fire on the eastern side of the island that the Fire department of the airport should and be the backup or naturally on called if there is a fire on anywhere from The College towards east...

Hope I didn't make any mistakes because the spelling police are out. I should leave (be4) (u) stop wii sorry me! lol

Not the fire truck at beef island cant leave the airport not even to put a bush fire out on the oposite side of the station fence It would would have to b a major incident and no planes are not landing understand. THE trucksARE BUILD DIFFERENT one is domestic and the other aerodrome firefighting.
    • @beef island (19/05/2014, 09:39) Like (2) Dislike (0) Reply
The airport fire service is not a part of the regular fire service, and cannot attend to fires as you indicated. If all tenders are in working condition, one can be used in an emergency situation, as in the case of the fire by Betteto a few years ago, very early in the morning before the airport is opened to air traffic.

Generally, what is at beef island is for beef island only.
