ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Chairman of the BVI Christian Council, Bishop John I. Cline, is condemning the return of a series of mystery posters appearing in and around Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

The posters first appeared in 2016 going into 2017, in all sizes, shapes and depicted the sun, the moon, cats, dogs and the likes. Some residents alleged at night, the posters would glow and the eyes of the animals would glitter at sunset.

The Town and Country Planning Department and the City Manager, Janice E. L. Brathwaite-Edwards said then, their agencies were not aware of who was responsible for the posters nor had they granted permission for the erection of the signs.

The posters

The creative artwork came in all colours and also depicted ‘I love the BVI’ in heart shapes.

Then came the August floods of 2017 and the two category five hurricanes in September 2017 that destroyed the Territory, knocked all the trees and poles down, killed the economy, caused death, homelessness and destruction, resulting in many residents leaving the Virgin Islands (VI).

At the time, Bishop Cline had condemned the mystery posters and asked for the artiste to come forward.  He even suggested they were demonic and evil.

Bad omen?

Late December of 2018, the mystery posters started to reappear with some depicting Christmas and cats. To date, no one came forward to claim responsibility for the artwork that can be seen on trees, utility poles and buildings.

Our newsroom is on the hunt to find the artiste and the meaning of the signs, as they have been condemned by Bishop Cline.

He is again suggesting that they are evil and bring negative energy to the VI.

I’ve seen the men who erected them.

@ Spotted, Since you have seen the persons, please send a note or contact VINO, who hopefully would assist in bringing the matter of these posters to light.

If the designer/s of these posters are not up to mischief, I suggest that they come forward and let the public know what message they are actually trying to send. Otherwise, they are just showing all that they do not care about the impression that they are creating, which can only be translated as being negative energy.

I think they’re just trying to do something artistic to be honest. Just like a secret Santa/admirer would. When I first saw the art it never occurred to me that it was “witchcraft” related. I found it odd that that was the first conclusion being made. I will look at one in the night and see if it glows lol. I think people are giving these things this negative energy. Good and evil does exist but once you believe in good and the Lord then forget the rest. I’m sorry but I would have to agree with some of the comments of Joke because they’re true - sadly. I mean people put up posters which advertise a jam/party where women have breasts and rear end out but that’s seen as common, but is it morally right? No. But here you have a cat, Santa, I love BVI sign or what have you and everyone is in an uproar? Let’s just all believe in love and the Lord, live right and move on. There’s worse things to worry about.

If the Government doesn't know about the erection of the mystery boards, why the town and planning don't just take it down. Does this place have any laws? or you people just talk, talk, talk with no common sense to act.

Who into more obeah and witchcraft than BVI and it's.people. every political candidate have their obeah Man. They go where they have to go for service and bring in who and whatever they have to bring in for added protection and activation. They go Haiti, Guadeleope, Jamaica and Trinidad to get the service of the mediums. The very politicians who talk bout God the most does stock up on whatever spray or oil from the supplies shop.up the gut.
So Bishop, you suppose to have enough power to deactivate the art if you think they have power. That's what a bishop does, not run to the media or social media. If they evil them disable them.
BVI people only loud mouth when they can be heard. So many ayo so hateful and evil to others, especially those who are not wealthy or prominent from other Caribbean islands as if God built BVI with diamonds. There are some very good local people there and I am thankful to have met them during the.many years I lived there bit hey, never seen a set of people so.quick to pull down their own like BVI people. Now youall fraid of some.wood cats nailed up to trees? Gimee a break.
To the man of the cloth, the Lord isn't going judge the person for benign up the art, but you better look into what really matters and look in the mirror

You seem to know a lot about a group of people who seems to dislike you. Your energy is being wasted on so much hate for persons that you believe would not give you a second look. Exhale and talk to Christ. If you are living in such an unfriendly environment move away for a bit. Let go of the pain...Life is too short!

Oh no sir/madam, I live, breath and exhale in the holy Spirit and emptied myself of hate. Check yourself. All of the weak congregationers who feed off this guy would get bitter for what I wrote, but truth be told. Isn't what some of allyou have in your homes, businesses and hearts more demonic that some visible signs. Worry about what you can't see. If they were evil, they wouldn't be seen, they would have been hidden. Can't youall see that the people who put these up did so just to scrare allyo, because they know how fraid uno is, but have the hardest cry "God, God". That's why there are marine spirits and stuff under the earth. The Holy Book talk about them. Youall were humbled for 1 day which was Sept 7 and probably 8 then youall turned worse than before. Check who got the hate. People who are holy are armed with the armour of salvation, the shield of faith, the breastplate of righteousness etc. Hasn't the heavenly father given you power to trample on scorpions and serpents in Jesus name and nothing shall by anymeans harm you? Set of powerless folks with loud barks.

The fact that you are discussing marine spirits shows that you too indulge in some form of darkness. Did the Holy Spirit show you these falling angles of the sea? Did Jesus tell you to pray against them? It all sounds dark to me. I do not entertain demons. I entertain Jesus and angels of God ‘angels of light’. Whatever may be in the seas only God knows and He will show me and instruct me to pray against if He wishes to. It is God’s will be done, not my will be done. I am sure God did not ask you to come on this blog with all this dark hate. Ask Jesus for peace and love. I am a Christian of light but your words are filled with hate and darkness and I am a BVIslander who do not hate you. I will pray for you to overcome this.

@ Joke the fact that you referred to these things as little wooden art already suggest your persuasion. I must agree with you with at these the BVI is full of a lot more witchcraft workers than is believed. My conviction has always been that these things are not innocent they are demonic. I believe like many they were what attracted the massive distructions we had in 2018. What I want to see is a bunch of concern citizens getting up in arm and go aroround the BVI AND RIP THEM DOWN before a disaster has to do it for us. The story may be different the second time around. We got grace amidst the storms of 2018. It may not be like that again. Let’s take warning.

If this is true (people and politicians doing VooDoo) then That right there is the Evil being done. If you see evil in a silly cat picture, time to examine your own heart and mind, for what you might be projecting onto it.

Sorry pastor Cline but I agree sadly with joke, I thought that was what prayer is for. Do you really believe that it was men that send that hurricane if so so you are just as bad as the men. I believe God is more powerful and with all the prayers that went up if God didn’t want Irma and Maria no man could have send that. I expect better from you so let’s keep praying.

I am very dissapointed in the bishop. If he is truly a man of God, why would these art works upset him. People, BVI was not the only place that the hurricanes destroyed. It's the belief in witchcraft that will mess with your rational thinking. We are better than this!

This is the same guy that would have you come to his church and tell you that you must worship God instead of idols because idols have no power; And that Jesus is stronger than Satan and Sin. If a piece of wood in the shape of a cat with paint on it has power over my life, then might as well I start worshipping objects instead of God then. People really believe too much crap. It may have power over you all who believe that nonsense but it sure as hell doesn't have any power over me.

Ha! - on the one hand BVIslanders like to claim they are an intelligent, rational people capable of governing ourselves like a real country (discuss) in the real, harsh world - and on the other hand we have this medieval madness that infuses our culture. I suspect that the hate and fear for these harmless bits of humorous art/craft comes because it throws jokes at our earnest but intellectually babyish thought leaders. Jokes and sincere bull crappers don’t mix because the one sheds light on the other. The so-called Bishop has followers who believe his confected tripe because he has faux gravitas. Pieces of ply cut in cute shapes to amuse and confuse - they just don’t fit into his mixed up cult of pretend intelligence and total Dark Ages susperstition. He’s using the seriousness of European enlightenment as a vehicle to gather simple-minded followers impressed by his pseudo intellect - while throwing around juju nonsense to speak to their gullible confusions and thereby keep them in tow, and ready to donate and/or vote. Where’s the dangerous trickery here? In the roadside trees, or in the pulpit/self-serving vanity media?

Why does it bother you? No idea why it is even an issue for you but I suspect a lot of the anger against these is because locals feel like outsiders are running amok in their country. I think it’s xenophobia, maybe anti-white resentment, wrapped up in extremist Christian indignation. It’s not Christian, it’s BVIslanders afraid of the truth that they no longer know/control everything that goes on here. Like it or not that’s what they chose but they can’t live with even its most insignificant consequences, like an anonymous, humorous, harmless sign maker.
