BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online state that bandits pounced on Domino Gas Station in Baughers Bay last evening, September 3, 2015, relieving the owner of the business, Mr Robert 'Bob' Pickering, of cash as he was preparing to go make a night deposit at one of the banks.

According to reliable sources, the incident occurred sometime before midnight.

The alleged robbery follows the attempted armed robbery at Matcha's Bar and Grill on Fort Hill on August 28, 2015 during which the business owner, Mr Bryan B. Fahie was shot. He was subsequently treated at Peebles Hospital and sent away.

And it was only on Saturday August 22, 2015 that two armed robbers struck at the Seetos Restaurant and Bar located in the Mill Mall on Wickham’s Cay I.

The robbery took place even after several customers were in the vicinity.

Meanwhile, the robbery on Mr Pickering brings back memories of April 26, 2011 when he was shot multiple times by a lone gunman while he was leaving his business with a night deposit bag en-route to the bank.

It was the first time since Domino Gas Station opened in 2004 that the proprietor had been robbed. He admitted then that the shooter was brave enough to open fire at a time when employees and customers were around.

Police confirm robbery

The Royal Virgin islands Police (RVIPF) has since confirmed the robbery on the gas station.

In a press release issued today, September 4, 2015, the RVIPF said: "The proprietor of the gas station reported that he was taking the evening proceeds into his vehicle after 9pm last night when he was approached by a lone gunman. He turned over the proceeds to gunman who then fled on foot to the front of the building.

"A second assailant than emerged, took the bag after it fell from the first assailant and they both ran toward the Purcell Roundabout."

Police said both assailants were described as slim built; one was approximately 5’10 inches tall and the other was a bit shorter. They were reportedly both wearing dark long pants and short sleeved shirts.

"Neither said anything during the incident and no one was injured in the incident," the RVIPF reported.

Police are asking for anyone who may have been on the Blackburne Highway after 9pm last night or could share any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators to contact the Criminal Investigations Department through the RVIPF 311 access number.

      ask yourself these questions:

      1. why the proliferation of guns in the BVI; the drug trade
      2. once the guns are there, they become accessible to idle hands; hence retaliation shootings and robberies
      3. what is going to happen once these incidents become commonplace? people will become desensitized and it will have a normative effect on society.

you have a chance to stamp it out now but authorities have to be vigilant and relentless. act now, maybe you can still save natures little secrets.

I working a 9-5 and i self can't even afford a gun even if i wanted one.. These lazy ms need to put down the gun, man up and go look work!! The time and effort it takes to sit down and sort out a robbery could be used to sit down and sort out your life.. What kinda life is that to live? when ever you feel you need money the only thing you can come up with is to go rob and potentially murder? Smh this used to be such a nice place to live. Now i be triple locking my doors before i leave my house.

Hmmmm again and again and again and again. They will continue and continue, they seem to be young people who dont like to listen and like to splurge money. Older folks would rob and lay low for a while as to not bring too much heat. One got sought out at a strip club some years ago and now its time to deal again. Businesses the street knows the street better than anyone else, pay a small group of people to go out and find who doing the robberies and report back. Hire a fixer to come in and correct the problem in the worst possible way to send a message. Rob the Robbers, take their mopeds, take their jewelry, turn this around.

Let them become more brazen, they will eventually do something more stupid and then get caught. Hopefully, the police will have their act together so their case will be solid. And, hopefully, the judge will not be lenient. There is not much difference between armed robbery and terrorism.

I agree with that also. We just dont have enough cops on the road at nights also. I fear for innocent bi-standers, customers, and most of all tourist. Government really have to put a stop to this because this is already out of control.
The government will either have to ammend a new law for real business owners to allow a license gun for protection or make it mandatory that all business owners install full security system, or higher real security guards that carries guns. If they dont the crime will "never" done. It is just an every year cycle. Wake up Tortola the world is changing rapidly. We just got to pray we dont get any suicide bombers now.

Where are the CCTVS and business's owners especially need to think outside the box and that of the culprits or criminals. Sometimes this could be an inside job as many employees are aware of frequent schedules and are able to alert known robbers.Well I am here saying this must be a back to school stunt. Just in time to purchase books,uniforms,etc.lol. but for real it could be just that

This best be sorted soon. There must be plenty of people who have a good idea who is doing this, in such a small community. Come high season, they will turn their attention to tourists on boats and then BVI is going to lose its second industry as quickly as it loses its first.

I am not putting any blame on no particular individuals. However, my advise to the Immigration and law-enforcement personnel here in the BVI, is to screen foreign expat very carefully when importing workers here. As we all are aware; several individuals are unemployed and these same persons have huge responsibilities and demands. Most people are blaming the youths but it is not necessary so at times. The BVI has people with criminal records from their countries, so lets be our neighbours keeper and let the authority know of persons that might be of interest to them. Just my suggestion to all in general; it might be one of us next to fall victim of armed robbery.

Immigration screening is quite rigorous as it is. don't put anymore ideas in their heads. Pleease.
What can happen though is sometimes our imported workers who were adequately screened to begin with, lose their jobs and stick around.....Devil finds work for idle hands. Same for the Tolan youths who doing nothing each day.

the police need to bring back the road blocks; if you are a law abiding citizen you have nothing to fear: this is the height of !uck now, all of a sudden one robbery after the other...these guys cases your business and fully well know that no police are patrolling our streets; therefore escaping is in their favor: the sad part about this, should you killing one of these clowns during an attempted robbery you are subjected to stand trial....when you are on the public roads in this territory count how many police you see(try it)....especially after that sun sets!!!

@ Really - Not meaning to sound ignorant and if I do, too bad but it's already on my mind so might as well I say it. The next time one of those Belle Vue boys rob you, go and arrest them - and make sure you have substantial evidence. In these situations there is no need to point fingers at one group of people and if you ask me, it can be any group from any location in the BVI (not leaving out the location you mentioned) - and it can also be persons from the outside. Next time, give some advice or something meaningful and stop pointing!

On the other hand, these businesses need some sort of security. I can't understand why Bob doesn't have security especially since the one incident and almost lost his life. That should have been an eye opener to him. One post mentioned on a social forum that he should make escorted deposits earlier in the day and I fully agree. As a manager/owner of a business that accumulates so much cash, it's not wise to have it on hand knowing how the economy is hurting and crime rate is increasing, regardless to reports. $10K is a lot of money to loose! "Geeeez"!The news says it was cash but perhaps some of it was in checks and ATH transactions. In any case, tighter and 'trusted' security is highly recommended.
