Antiguan mother & children stranded in VI seeking help to return home

- Cacy Christian allegedly told Antigua Observer she & 2 children living on boat in Tortola
Cacy Christian, 32, according to Antigua Observer, came to Tortola with her 9-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter on March 6, 2020 for a 2-week vacation but ended up stranded after the Territory closed its borders due to the coronavirus pandemic. Photo: Antigua Observer
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Antigua newspaper, Antigua Observer, reported on July 16, 2020, that a woman, who came to the Virgin Islands with her two children on vacation, is asking for help to return home.

Cacy Christian, 32, according to Antigua Observer, came to Tortola with her 9-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter on March 6, 2020 for a 2-week vacation but ended up stranded after the Territory closed its borders due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She has reportedly been living on a boat her father owns but said it has now become challenging especially since her father has been working reduced hours at BVI Ports Authority.

Locals have been assisting

Christian, however, admitted that locals on Tortola have been assisting her with food and clothing but she is now requiring assistance to return to Antigua.

She allegedly told the Observer she has reached out to government officials in Antigua for assistance without success.

The woman also said, according to Antigua Observer, that she has sought to get a refund from the airline she had booked her return ticket from so she could purchase another ticket for a flight home but was told she would have to wait 90 days for a refund.

‘It’s hard having 2 children in this situation’

“That’s just ridiculous. I can’t wait here three months again,” the woman reportedly told the publication.

She also said he has likely lost her job at a gas station in Antigua.

“So I am just pleading to the Government or anyone in Antigua that can help me get back home. It’s hard having two children in this situation,” Ms Christian reportedly said.

The publication did not say whether Ms Christian reached out to the VI Government for assistance.

You obviously don't have the love of God in your heart and definitely is the one with the filthy mouth, not Tortolians. I read the article very carefully, and the young lady said that locals has been helping her with both food and clothing. She has gotten herself in a situation of her own making and probably could have gotten help before if she was trying to leave. Unfortunately persons like yourself is so filled with hate that you will wish bad on Tortola and Tortolians no matter what. Tortolians are less critical of you all than you are of us. But guess what, thankfully there is something that you can do today so that you do not smell our filthy mouths or see our dirty houses. Life is fleeting and tomorrow is not guaranteed, so leave, go where you will be happy. What I can guarantee you is you won't find any Tortolians in your face once you do making your life hell, talking trash. Wish I could say the same about your ilk, wherever your kind goes, hate follows you. Try love and kindness and that is what you will attract.

"She has gotten herself in a situation of her own making and probably could have gotten help before if she was trying to leave". This is a quote from you and I must ask if you actually read the article. Washing mouth, trashy talk and mudslinging is cheap garbage that some are quite ready to respond to for a clout lol. Trending no doubt you hit it out the park but it show how easy the pot tell the kettle how black it is literally. Nice

Why is it the first we have heard of this? They have been here since March and none of her family have sent her money to get home within 5 months? Her father is here, where is he and where are all of their relatives in Antigua? I know the borders are closed, so what is her country immigration doing to help?
    • .... (23/07/2020, 07:38) Like (18) Dislike (12) Reply
The borders aren’t closed to departures. There are flights to Antigua running. There is no excuse why she is still here.

Hence the story line.... She's requesting help from her government. The flights leaving here aren't free; they're chartered. It's not the same airline she entered using, so therefore her return ticket is of no use. Some of you people so full of yourselves, you won't take the time to read before commenting.
      • unknown (23/07/2020, 21:05) Like (2) Dislike (1) Reply
If you read properly you would have seen that the airline she came on is not flying and she requested a refund to buy another ticket on a different airline she have to wait 90 days smh take all head out allu ass for once.

Comprehension is key. She did not ask our government for assistance. She asked her own government for assistance. Give the lady a break. I agree that story should never have been on our news.

i don't understand how she can say she can't get home. there have been flights out of the bvi since march and charters. this sounds fishy like somebody planned to overstay and now realized that there is no more work for illegal people. if you're still here its by choice. this is why in the US they ask you how much money you have to travel with to make sure you do not become dependent on the state or cant pay for your way home.

Listen you youall! The Lord cries at the wickedness of mankind for humanity. Plague upon plague striking us and yet we get worse. The lady did not go to our local news. She is seeking help from her own government. I myself was stuck in a strange land for months longer than I intended. I went abroad in late February for major surgery and by the time I was fit to fly back home, even though the BVI border was still open for residents to return, the border for my in transit flight was closed. I am not a person of great means, plus I had someone travelling with me to assist me. When you are in friend and family house abroad, they get sick of you after one night. I was in another man country from February to early July hand to mouth. It is people who I didn't know extended their hand to help me. Put us up in a little guest house and made sure we had meals for the time we were low and seemed hopeless. People, do you know what the cost of a charter flight is. It is not the same as a commercial. What does her children father have to do with youall. Please, please please, let us stop this evil.

Another storm is churning in the Atlantic and soon youall will start to post prayers until it pass. Set of hypocrites. Love thy neighbor as theyself. Youall don't know when it going be your day.

I don't know what has gone wrong with some of these young people heads nowadays. Please give a number so we can help.

@ SOMETHING WRONG we must be careful how we treat strangers. We might be entertaining Angels unaware. This world is round it has no end. Their problem now can our problem today or tomorrow. There is a saying Pass it on let's make something right by having some compassion and empathy. We all may be struggling now but it won't last for ever.

Going a bit further I'm sure if 2000 people give this family one dollar we can charter a flight to get them to their home land with the social distancing especially for the sake of those children. The question have you heard the cry. What are we going to do as an individual. Forget about Government and ask our self what can we do to help.this family. She is very grateful for the help from some of our people here who have gone the extra mile to help.

Living on a boat this is hurricane season her pressure may be mounting high she just wants to get to her homeland

The VI borders closed on March 22nd, and she got here on March the 6th. If she was only supposed to be here for 2 weeks, or 14 days, she should have been gone a few days prior to the closure. Did Liat stop running prior to the 20th? I'm curious. Anyway, I do wish her well in getting back to Antigua.

This is so sad. There are charter flights going to Antigua to pick up passengers to bring to the BVI. They are making around $4,000 on a charter to bring to BVI. Certainly they can show some humanity and take this lady and her children back to Antigua at no cost. They have to go there anyway. In times like these, we need to extend a helping hand. Today for me tomorrow for you.
