The incident occurred on the eastern side of JVD. Photo: Andre Dawson
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- 35 year-old female American tourist Elissa Bradley reportedly drowned this afternoon, Friday March 9, 2012 off the eastern side of Jost Van Dyke, confirmed head of the Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) Phil Aspinall.

According to Aspinall, the deceased woman was part of a party of six on a charter including her father when the mishap occurred.

Apinall told this news agency that VISAR received a distress call at 3: 15 p.m. but when they arrived at the scene “it was apparent the woman was already dead and the police was immediately called.”

“I really don’t have much more information than that, the police are now looking into the matter,” the head of VISAR added.

However, this news agency understands that the body has since been taken to Scatliffe Funeral Home.

More details on the tragic incident will be provided as they become available.

I think this "manager" is a scammer looking to take your donations for himself. If you know Joe, you know who he works for and that he wouldn't have a manager. Elissa will be deeply missed by all who knew her and it is a travesty that someone is trying to profit of this tragedy.

why this is always happening in the BVI around the beaches???? I hope it is not anything to do with insurance, because I do not want the world to think our beaches are unsafe. But It's unfortunate and I pray that god will give the family strength.

I, with my daughter and her friend were standing on the beach and saw the incident.  I am so very sorry for your loss.  We are struggling with the enormity of the event, and would like to convey our sincere condolences to her family.   It was a very high sea, one that was heightened by the high northern swells that had been building all week, and the spring full moon, which is a very high tide.  It happened at high tide.   Sent from my iPad

Our boat was moored next to the Bradley family. We were at the Bubble Baths that morning. After learning of the events we went back to the Bubble Baths for sunset and observed a moment of silence and group hug in memory of Elissa. Deep condolences to the family.

I just heard about this. She was one of my students at IU Collins LLC. So sorry to hear this. Please make a donation in her memory to the Collins LLC scholarship fund at IU. She was an active member of the community and made a real difference.
