ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Write To Read (WTR), an educational initiative spearheaded by sisters and educators Sharie B. de Castro and Sharia B. de Castro guarantees a unique opportunity of learning, creativity and fun this summer.

With the 2016 Summer Olympic Games quickly approaching, Write to Read has creatively themed their summer camp Road To R.I.O. 2016: Rise. Inspire. Overcome - A Summer of Academic Olympic Fun.

Sharie B. de Castro explained that children should not experience any more “false starts” on their educational journey!

“Instead, every child deserves to get a head start over the summer so that they can be ahead next school year. This camp is a perfect balance of learning and fun,” she said.

“The Academic Olympic Write To Read Camp is important to keep children's brain engaged during the summer months. It will be a place of active learning and skill development, particularly reading and critical thinking, in a fun and creative way. Learning will not take place solely with the traditional pen to paper approach but through more hands on, skill based games and activities. This camp will help children to develop in areas they find challenging with the ultimate goal of helping them to achieve academic excellence,” she said in an additional comment to this news site.

Ready! Set! Go for Gold!

With the Starting Line being July 4 and the Finish Line of July 29, 2016 the camp venue is at Write To Read on the 3rd floor of E. A. Creque Building on Main Street.

“Register children by June 20th to be an Early Academic Olympic Qualifier and receive a special discount for the month. Children between the ages of 5 to 15 qualify for participation. Parents are encouraged to register early as there are limited spaces available,” the sisters pointed out.

Sharia B. de Castro stated that the summer camp will begin with an official Academic Olympics Opening Ceremony which will feature motivational speeches by VI Olympians who will be representing the Virgin Islands in Rio, Brazil. The Camp will end with a Closing Medal Ceremony where children will receive participation medals, certificates and awards for the various camp challenges.

According to the sisters, camp events include Warm Up Devotions, Reading Relays, Writing Hurdles, Motivational Exercises, Spelling Sprints, Math Marathons, Practice Art & Craft, Indoor Board Games, Outdoor Field Trips, Bowling Tournament, Movie Watch Parties and Olympic Game Day.

They said each child will receive an Olympic Passport and a stamp will be placed in it for each challenge they complete.

“Parents don't let your children fall behind. Meet us at the starting line,” they urged parents, while urging children to, “Find the champion within! Let the games begin! Team BVI all the way!”

I was thinking on enrolling my daughter but that price is too high by far! Parents still have to find money for new school uniforms and books for the upcoming year! I think it’s an excellent program but it’s too much some won't be able to afford it.

what people do with their money is none of your business. We love to pull the name brand shoes and clothes card. My children go to another camp that offers the same services for way less. Get a grip, bout name brand.

The going rate for businesses privately owned is $400 for the month. Actually there are camps that are $230 per week. If your child needs help with reading no cost would be too high.

If NDP had really cared about the progression of our people, necessary program such as this one should have had provisions to offer subsidies to offset the cost for low-income families. Instead, they know how to find money for airlines and jail-walls around schools.

Knowledge ain't cheap. I was excited to enroll my children. When I looked at the price I found a way to budget it in because it's an awesome program that my kids need. I have to do without some wants this month but it's fine because my children need this. Great program idea ladies. Don't listen to the haters.
