SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI - General Manager of Nanny Cay Resort and Marina, Mr Miles Sutherland-Pilch has confirmed with this news site that he is awaiting the approval of relocation plans for the $30 million Nanny Cay development project to continue.

These works were stalled a month ago when the Conservation and Fisheries Department (C&FD) ordered the suspension of the work due to environmental concerns.

"We hope to be started back up soon," said Sutherland-Pilch when reached by this news site yesterday August 13, 2015.

"We're just waiting for our relocation plan to be approved." He said that plan should be approved soon and he was expecting word on it today August 14, 2015.

"It had to do with the corals. We didn't think we were too much right in that area...we want to do the right thing and spend the time getting it right," Sutherland-Pilch told our newsroom.

The Department of Conservation and Fisheries had on July 14, 2015 put the brakes on the $30 million Nanny Cay Development Project in the wake of environmental concerns emanating from it.

Kelvin Penn, acting Chief Conservation and Fisheries Officer in the Department of Conservation and Fisheries had confirmed the news to this news site. Penn said that while he could not say much about the issue the project had been halted temporarily. He could not be reached for an update on the project.

Speaking with this news site on the day of the halting of the project, Sutherland-Pilch said the matter was being discussed among all the parties with a view to resolving it.

“I wouldn’t say it was halted…there were a couple of issues but we’ll know this afternoon…we are working with them,” he had said.

“I think we are going to be on track very soon. It is not something that was entirely unexpected. You are making it sound worse than it is,” said Sutherland-Pilch on July 14, 2015.

Is is the stupid attitiude of successive Gov't officials that has meant that there has been so little progress in development (except in Virgin Gorda where the wheels run much more smoothly) in the BVI and why we are becoming a third rate tourism destination.

But the government continue to pour thousands of gallons raw sewage into the waters around Sea Cows bay, Nanny Cay and Prospect reef, its a disgrace and very unhealthy for humans and marine life.It needs to be a priority to have this practices stopped for the benefit of all.

Thank you Kelvin for doing your job! The master plan for this oversized project should have been presented in total instead of piecemeal so no one has a complete picture of how the cay is being ruined. The shallows have already been filled. Condos on the waterways are subject to pollution. It is a poor and greedy plan at best. I hope they are shut down.

he is still pushing government for it for the convenience of his customers while he knows the government can't afford it. I bet the agreement for oil nut bay has something holding over Gov's head which is totally unrealistic and naive.
that is why I bet, NDP still pushing for it. Once that opens, bye-bye beef island and trellis bay. Hans creek, mangroves and fish nurseries. hello hotel, golf course, commercial centre, more stores and a village, peace and nature. That is also why this person is also pushing for North Sound shopping centre. Gives his people something to do!!
