TOKYO, Japan – After checking the Court Registry last week and discovering that no case had been filed against the Government of the Virgin Islands on behalf of Hugh E. Darley, our newsroom made contact with Mr Darley to find out whether he was still going ahead with the lawsuit.

The former project coordinator of the Cruise Pier Development Project Hugh E. Darley has, however, disclosed to this news site that he is still working with his attorneys with a view to negotiating with Government to recoup monies allegedly owed.

Speaking from Japan on Sunday February 21, 2016, Darley said, “I will take some time to build a good case and then set a meeting with [Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith].”

“I am in Japan where I am working on a new cruise port. I am still working with my attorney to formulate an approach to negotiate with the BVI.

"I’m busy pursing meaningful projects and have little time to waste with the BVI problems but will get a resolution but on my timetable. The BVIPA can’t keep any time table so no need to plan to fit into their schedule,” he said.

Premier Smith 'needs to get out more'

Regarding the statement by Premier Smith that the Tortola Pier Park was the best in the region, Mr Darley identified ports like Falmouth in Jamaica, Port Zante in St Kitts and others like St Maarten, which he said were designed by his firm IDEA Inc. and said Premier Smith needs to get out more. According to Darley, he is sorry to see the project remain a construction site and is not complete.

Darley said also that the BVI Government needs to give credit where it is due. “I saw 'Project inspired and created by Hugh Darley' was not included on the plaque unveiled. Mark (Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool R4) wanted to own the project and now he has it! You should always give credit where credit is due!” he said.

According to Darley, he never intended to have a battle with the Government of the Virgin Islands in the media and hopes the matter is resolved amicably. “We would like to reach a resolution that is good for both parties and we will try to meet with the Premier and see if we would resolve this amicably between the two parties.”

Darley, who alleges that the Government of the Virgin Islands owes him money for the use of his designs for the cruise pier project, said he was going to disclose to the international investment community that the VI Government, led by Premier Smith, could not be trusted.

@ wize up: I hearing the talk as well but here is where criminal proceedings will set in: remember persons when jail for another government project, so if persons goes to jail for this project that is nothing new.....crime & jail time goes hand n hand( keep the faith time longer than twine)

BigUp to NDP for having the insight, the intelligence .and the presence of mind to have checked Darley early on and to ignore his foolishness when he again surfaced. Too bad we did not have these heads in charge for the BiWater show.

Given such circumstances (involving money), all races of people are capable of lying. So why did we assume this white man was NOT lying? His story was doubtful from the start, yet BVIslanders wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. We have a long way to go indeed.

There is a thread of truth in what he says and we all know it. The NDP and MV have ego and do deals behind closed doors. They do not have open meetings per planning act. They do not involve the public and do what they want. They are also making money at taxpayers expense. This has nothing to do with Darley except he blew the whistle. So if we have a long way to go, how do we start? NDP has a way of punishing if one doesn't go along to get along. This is not democratic government, it is intimidation and dictatorship. MV says "we will listen to the people but we will not be deterred from getting what we want". There it is.
